For those of us with ungalvanised mercs.. I can't help but notice my car is still sitting pretty covered in beads of water... especially the bootlid between the lip spoiler and boot... (it's started to bubble up here interestingly) anyway... do you think this increases the chance of rust as water will collect/stay longer on the car? All my neighbours cars are as dry as a bone...

Cheers

'tis a point that's been made before...beading can look good...but the car never dries. Not sure if it promotes rust though.

I'd say there is only a problem if water is beading on bodywork not protected by any paint.
I don't see water settling on paint/clearcoat causing rust.

The water beads because there's a layer of hydrophobic wax between it and the paint. So, there shouldn't be any water/metal contacts.

The cars that look dry will have the water sheeting off and collecting in the nooks and creases/joints.

Personally I don't think it makes one iota of difference regarding rust formation.

The difference it does make is the car with beading will show water marks when it finally dries. The car without beading will dry with and even coating of hard water/dust film. Not so noticeable.

For those of us with ungalvanised mercs.

And for those of us with fully galvanised Mercs, mine still began to rust at 4.5 years old. If the car is not built & painted properly in the first place then no amount of galvanising will stop it rusting.
