All Blacks Star Gives Boy A Medal After Tackle

New Zealand's victory at the Rugby World Cup will be particularly memorable for one young boy who got more than he bargained for after running onto the pitch.

As the All Blacks enjoyed their lap of honour around Twickenham Stadium, the child – believed to be a teenager – leapt over the hoardings and dashed onto the field.

Moments later, he was hit with a full-on tackle by a security guard – but one of the All Blacks' star players felt duty bound to make sure this wasn't the boy's lasting memory of the night.

Sonny Bill Williams went to the stands and gave his gold medal to the youngster after feeling sorry for him, and judging by the reaction on the child's face, the mammoth gesture paid off.

The rugby player added: "If it was my little brother or a cousin, I would have given that security guard a hiding. This will be a night he remembers, hopefully."

This isn't the first time that Williams has been noted for his generosity.

Earlier in the tournament, he offered two semi-finals tickets to a UK aid agency, with a view to inviting Syrian refugees to soak in the atmosphere.

And, at the end of that match, footage of him comforting and helping a South African opponent went viral online, with Williams applauded for his sportsmanship.

The Auckland-born athlete, also a heavyweight boxer, was a half-time substitute for the All Blacks in last night's final – and was instrumental in helping New Zealand beat Australia 34-17.

Sounds like the security guy was a bit over zealous

What a great gesture.
