As per the title , a beautiful black E320 coupe on a L plate , heading towards London on the A303 today , early afternoon. I mean , it was stunning , immaculate , looked like it had just been polished. Surprisingly quick too.

I pulled over in Chicklade to go to the toilet , but caught him up again just as we came onto the M3.

I think the owner was a member of the MBOC as he had a sticker central top of the windscreen.

Anyway , if it was you and you are reading this , then my compliments on your car. :) , stunning.

...it was that good???

No , i was desperate for a wee .... :o

Didn't get any pics , it was only me in the car , camera in the boot.

Well it must have been nice enough for you to remember it, think about it and post up about it ;) :)

There's quite a few clean older MBs out there  I think there's something quite nice about an older one in good nick :thumb:

Seen a few nice 190's about recently, amoung others. Nice to see cars of a certain age on the road and looking good and I suppose there are more MBs in that category than most.

Costs me enough keeping a 10 year old car mint and running like it's just come out the showroom, anything older and I think I may as well have one that's literally just come out the showroom for what it must cost.

Honestly , it looked like it had just come out of the factory ...

You know the E36 w124 coupe in MBWorld, it was of the same standard ( as near as i could tell while travelling at ** mph )

Depends on what the car is, the condition of it when you take ownership and how much/how you use it I guess Graham :thumb:

Had the 190 about 3 or so years now, it's been as good as gold - doesn't get a lot of use (3rd+ car most of the time) and has barely cost any more than routine servicing.

Possibly including servicing/maintenance costs and the purchase price, I would stand to break even after three years should I want to sell :)

A second (or more) car as a plaything need not be too expensive

I am not cut out to own an older car. Slightest suggestion something may need changing and there is a new part on there in it's place, required right now or not. So a car that needn't cost, would cost if it were mine!

Hmm - I see your point :) But there comes a point where you've changed all of those bits, and there's little/no expenditure for a long time to come :thumb:

In my case, the previous owner spent ~ £4k on the last thorough service - all new hydraulic pipes, gaskets, diff seals etc (at an MB main dealer ;)) and so when I took ownership of the car I have only generally had to keep on top of routine maintenance.

It's a bit like the old broom analogy - so many new handles and heads, etc.

To be honest, I had more trouble with my brand new Audi over the first six months than I have had with this car. I'm serious! :o And I definately spent quite a bit more on my W202 C230K when I owned that.

I guess I got lucky to a degree :)

would i get away with pretending it was me?

ive not left the house in days but i could try and convince everyone

Sounds as if you may want to get back to one Howard - more individual are'nt they.

There's a few shiny ones knocking about in South London - a pale metallic green pre facelift 300CE close to me with beige leather looks particularly nice. Its an odd colour combo but it really suits the car - its usually wafting around being driven by a classy looking middle aged lady.

Mine looks clean for about 5 mins after a wash and then gets covered in road film, brake dust and tree sap...

There are loads of scruffy 124s, 190s, 202s and 210s of all shapes and sizes smoking about though..

Weirdly , i was looking for CLK's on the A303 ( on the way to Cornwall and on the way back ) but didn't see a single one , the only one i saw was in Bodmin ... only saw the one w124 coupe as well ...

I do still like the w124 coupe shape , but when you get used to the V8 in the CLK , i couldn't go back.
