Becker Map Pilot review ?

Hi, newby here, just got my 2nd C class estate. very disappointed with the becker satnav, have never had one that wont allow me to save addresses (other than in previous destinations where there a limit to the number you can have and theyre not listed in any address or distance order). Also, no means to import/export addresses? my old c220 had that and even my nissan qashqai and wife's Juke can import...

Old thread revival... :)

Any BMP users on here...? Is the above still correct - addresses cannot be saved (other than via 'previous destinations'), and cannot be imported (or managed on PC) - also with the latest software version?

OK, I managed to figure out a few things...

Firstly, the stored addresses can be managed from the 'Last Destinations' screen.

You simply choose a last destination that you want to keep, then push the wheel to the right, which will allow you to 'protect' it (meaning it wont get deleted when the 200 entries memory becomes full), and also to move it up or down in the list. You can also rename the entry. So a bit crude, but it works.

Regarding importing addresses.... the software files on the BMP unit can be easily accessed from a PC, so I am assuming that there would be a way of amending the stored destinations file with new information, will need to do some more reading.... but either way user-friendly it ain't :D

Another vote from me, I bought a new unopened unit off eBay for £300 rather than the dealer.

I like the integration.

The only downside is I find it occasionally freezes and needs a reboot (that's pulling it out and putting it back in again).

*Obvious statement alert*

The Becker will only work in a car that is factory pre wired for the unit.

Thanks for that info , because it isn't obvious : lots of car audio places advertise these things , besides used ones on eBay , and being a standard DIN sized audio unit , one would easily presume that with the relevant power supplies , GPS and radio antennae , that it could be fitted to any car .

The Becker Map Pilot is a Mercedes-only product, and the unit actually fits in the glove compartment:

Becker made the GPS hardware, Garmin supplied the software and Navteq supplied the maps.

This applies to vehicles from MY ~2011 to 2014 with the 'Becker Map Pilot Pre-wiring' option.

On newer cars, the GPS hardware is already built-in to the car, so all that is needed is an SD-card with the Garmin software and maps:

OK, yes, it can be done using SQL DB software, i.e. manually adding entries to the Destination.db file directly on the BMP unit from a PC, it works fine but it's time consuming.

Not the unit I'm thinking of then - there was an earlier Becker unit , also called the Map Pilot , quite similar to the Blaupunkt Travel Pilot in the link below .
