I have just purchased the above with an assembly date of 2013.. Is it free to update, or do you have to pay?

did you buy it new or second hand?
IIRC, new they give you 3 months of updates after you initially set it up.
If used you will have to pay

The only free update would be the firmware update .You'll need to do this as your TMC may not work.

Some of us here had this initial problem this which the new firmware has resolved.
