Just had a problem with the Map Pilot.

It was the only extra I ordered with my C220, which has now done the grand total of 567 miles in the 3 weeks I've had it. So it's not worn out..........

So today, when I tried to set a destination, the Satnav screen was completely frozen on the menu screen. Neither the back or C buttons did anything, nor did the multi control knob. Other functions, Radio, CD, Phone all worked OK.

When my laptop does this, I remove the power source, count to 10, and reconnect.

Guess what, by unplugging the Becker unit in the glove box, and replacing after a few seconds solved it.

Anyone else had this?

Thanks

Malcolm

Some anecodotal evidence for this happening to some people but fairly infrequently= a couple of times in several months of ownership. Check the BECKER internal battery is seated correctly. If it happens often and it was supplied through Mercedes Benz I would be asking for a new one. Have you performed the latest firmware upgrade available from the Becker website?

Thanks for the reply, no I've not tried to upgrade yet, some of the experiences quoted on here were a tad worrying!

The unit was supplied by Mercedes Corporate, it's a lease car, so if it happens again I will be on to them.

Yes- happens once very couple of months. Just eject it and put back in and it's fine. Upgarde is fine if you take all the maps off first and then put them back on when upgrade is done.

There are several updates available, the firmware the content manager and the maps. IRRC each one can be updated on their own. Its the map data that takes a very long time. When you do start off make sure you download and install the latest version of the content manager first on your PC. When you first plug in the Becker to the PC the Content Manager main page should display all the versions of the software/firmware you have.

By comparison with 'real' sat navs the Becker is pretty rubbish, and rather badly supported too. I've had Garmins and Tom Toms which were both noticeably better. The recent upgrade helped a bit though.
The connection where the Becker is plugged in under the dash can be poor, I have noticed it being worse after a frosty night. I'd estimate it having a problem getting going about once a month. Mostly when it won't work it will sort itself out after a mile or three. I'd try giving the contacts a squirt of contact cleaner, but it is a bu**er to get to, at my age, and lack of mobility.

As I have said on other Map Pilot threads, for me, this problem was resolved when my dealer updated the head unit firmware. I have not had a lock up since. It was previously happening every 2 or 3 days.

Just happened to me for the first time yesterday. The car/Becker is now 1 year old, so not a regular issue for me - unless this is the start of things to come. I'm on the latest firmware/software.

Don't agree with that at all. I find the Becker well designed and well supported. There was an issue a few months ago and it got resolved pretty quickly. It does crash every so often but it is not a major problem.

Another question, please, on the same topic, it froze again yesterday, cured, as before with a disconnect etc.

But the distances had changed to kms rather than miles, and I could find no way to switch it back.

In the end I disconnected it a couple more times, and it eventually read miles again. So how is it switched between the two, say for continental driving?

Thanks

Malcolm

I would check with your dealer again I have never had this problem although If I did, I am not sure it would bother me but to keep on happening that's another story. Straight back to dealer.

I think it's a known bug. Mine occasionally and randomly switches to km.

I've done a search, but can't find the thread that discussed the postcode only taking the first 4 characters.........

However, I took advantage of the 45-day window for a free update of my Map Pilot, and as one post suggested it would, it now allows the complete postcode to be entered.

Not found any more changes yet, but time will tell!

Malcolm
