Bentley Boy!

All ready for the 'Hole in the wall gang' to arrive first thing in the morning...... or so they said....
That garage space is disgraceful!!

Where are all the boxes full of "bits that might come in handy"? The mower that you really need to get round to fixing? The half-full paint tins?

Fwiw, I'm looking at that (from my "amateur house builder's" perspective) and I'm seeing,,,..

  • Dense concrete blocks. So presumably the least impact approach will be to cut along all four lines with a Stihl saw. Because of the enclosed location, the dust from that would be almost impossible to cope with, so they will presumably use the water sprayed blade. If so the brick walls & flooring (and everything else) will need to be comprehensively protected (or removed first).
  • The three blocks under the 13a socket will be unsupported, as soon as the hole is cut. Presumably the "Hole in the wall gang" will securely stabilise that entire 5th course before they even ask for their first cups of tea.!!
  • The 13a socket has no obvious source of supply. Logically it will be fed from above or behind, however a feed running up would also have been a compliant installation.?
  • Lastly applies to after the "dust has settled" and your extra clearance is achieved. I appreciate that your driving skillz are proven to be of a level that most of us only achieve whilst asleep & dreaming, nonetheless your clearance will still be very close. Do you have some ingenious method to ensure the millimetre accurate positioning that will avoid damage to your awesome new Blower.??

Pit Lane markers? :)

It's either that or the old 'tennis ball on a piece of string hung from a rafter' trick

It's more the left/right alignment, to avoid any risk of scraping the car on one side of the opening. Could be the parking camera setup on the car is good enough to avoid this, but I'd personally be making the hole a *lot* wider than necessary ... just to be on the safe side!

Does the car have ride height adjustment? If so I'd be basing the height on the maximum lift position (plus a bit) as well ....

My builder mates were as good as their word and rolled up at 8:15 this morning.

By 9:00 there was a large hole in the wall.

They were gone by 11:00 and I fitted some back boards to seal the hole. I was aiming at burr walnut to match the trim in the Bentley, but settled on plan 'B' which was to use some old wardrobe doors I hade in stock.
By midday I stuck some blue carpet down the edges just in case the ride quality of the car was so good that I didn't notice the stop block I had installed on the floor😂🤣

By lunch time the clear up was complete and a happy Bentley was snuggled up in the garage.

A bit of a palaver for a car being 20mm too long enough, but all sorted now for a very small cost.

The Bentley is being to feel a little more like mine now. I fits the garage nicely and I've now got my own plate on it.

I decided to store the rear seat infotainment equipment under the boot floor, the dogs have seen most of the movies and It's a rare occasion we have rear seat passengers on long trips...:dk:
But what to store them in? I found an unused bag from the JCB diesel land speed record project which fitted just perfectly both for the contents and the nostalgia trip the car represents 😁

I was running through the build sheet for the Bentayga today and discovered that the original owner from the West Country had optioned the car up to the tune of almost £43k:eek:
It was always said at Bentley, that of those buyers who came the 'boutique' in Crewe to spec their cars, 90% didn't ask the price!
That seems entirely believable now. I thought the Macan had a ridiculous figure of £16k extras, but I didn't pay anything like the price of the Bentley options for the Porsche itself!
I am glad the first owner splashed out on the Touring, City and Mulliner specs which bring tangible benefits. I'm even more pleased they spent almost £4K on the Dynamic ride but less so that they spent over £10k on the rear seat infotainment and TV, most of which is now stored under the boot floor.
The car is now cleaning up nicely and is pretty much mint now. I have gone through a number of clay bars and got almost enough tar off the lower doors to resurface the M25.....;)😂

Nice :)

Reminds me of my first E63 - a 2012 car - which had been first registered by MBUK and had just shy of £25k in optional equipment.

I bought it at 18 months old and paid less than twice the cost of the factory options it had on it for the whole car
