Just realised that this clashes with Auto Italia @ Brooklands 5th May!

I'm still coming to this though & will have to pass on Auto Italia this year. Shame as we always get places on the parade laps round the Mercedes Benz world track.

They have Supercar Sunday @ Brooklands in July I think. Although seems to be moving to the Sat this year due to cycling event...might need a name change!

There is Festival Italia @ Brands Hatch in Aug that we have a space for as well which was excellent last year.

I have sold my E350 cab due to lack of space. With this in mind I will not be parking at the George so my space is available. If nobody objects I will still partake in the drive out and attend but park out of site. Thanks to all those who advised on my options to replace the E350 in another thread. Sorry to say Audi now.

You are more than welcome on the drive out. Hopefully someone can take your 'ticket' that hasnt already paid, and pay you direct. Hi Everyone,

I'm sure most of you have heard about the very sad passing of forum administrator, Druk (or Derek to his friends). We would like to have a 'Druk' award this year at Benz On The Green, it is something that the lovely Bruce Millar contacted me about and I was in agreement that it would be a really nice idea.
Now...I am stuck for ideas. From what I can see of Derek and from speaking to him very briefly at BOTG last year, he was a very funny guy. Therefore I dont think we want a very 'serious' award, equally we dont want something silly. Olly and I have come up with 'Craziest Modification' but somehow that doesnt feel right. Therefore we are throwing it out there to you, the forum members, some of whom were good friends of Derek, to see what you can come up with?

How about "the most pointless/useless modification or add-on" :)
 
My thinking was that we come up with something that would help us all (old and new members) to remember Derek, and maybe pause for a few seconds to think about him? I guess, if we have an annual award that is recycled every year with the intention of making us all think about Derek for a few seconds, we have achieved the goal.

He was an engineer at heart, who wore his heart on his sleeve and was not afraid to state his feelings, many of us will have been on the receiving end of his wisdom. He was also generous and thoughtful, always happy to help others at any time.

I am not the arbiter here and Benz on the Green are putting the hard miles on this. I just thought, it is great event that Derek supported and enjoyed so a fitting place to award a "winner"

A Best Modification could be fun (in engineering terms) and could range from the sublime to the ridiculous (Who has used string to operate their windscreen wipers?)

When I speak of Derek's Generosity, I am reminded (god I sound like a radio preacher) that when some very kind sole, decided my WIfe's Sat Nav would be better in their car than hers. Derek, without any prompting or asking, posted me a fully working, perfectly good TomTom unit, with the mounting bracket. No questions asked, he just posted it to us, where it still remains and is used every day. His rationale for this? "what will I do with an old TomTom in the kitchen drawer Bruce?"

A small thing to some. But it started a great friendship between us and everytime we see that Sat Nav we think of his kindness. Thank you Derek. Those who recall will know that I teased him relentlessly on here about him having all the POI's set to Glasgow Knocking Shops ;^)

This would seem befitting. Something borderline sacrilegious and yet carried out with such exquisite engineering as to be worthy of a factory effort.
