Best all-round car I've ever driven

W204 C220 AMG Sport Estate
Greetings! As of last night, I am the proud owner of a W204 C220 AMG Sport Estate, in white. The white part actually wasn't something I was keen on, but it was the only one they had and after test driving it, I wanted it, lol.

It got it's first big journey last night from Doncaster to Northampton and I've been driving it around today, heading back up to Donny tomorrow. I've got to say, this is by far the best all-round vehicle I've ever driven in my life! An estate, that is auto, but has a manual mode with paddles and a sport mode, start stop, GPS Sat Nav with live updates and traffic feedback, 70-80mpg at times, but 0-60 in around 8 seconds......needless to say, I'm in love with it.

Welcome - it's the estate bit that turns a great car into a best all rounder :thumb:.

Don't forget the photos...

I will try to get some pics in the morning, as I'm staying on a golf resort, so there's some lovely scenery lol.

Welcome to the forum. I cannot argue with your assessment, having had one on loan when my car was in for a service. I was very reluctant to hand it back after an afternoon of driving in the Scottish Borders on almost empty country roads.

That's some good info... As been thinking what to upgrade too in The future.....
Thanks...!!

Hi Hollow point, estates are by far the best cars, I would not be without one, although I went for the e class, I needed a longer boot

Unfortunately I failed to get pics at the Golf Resort, but here's one of the MB and the wifes new (to her) Mondeo here at home.

I love the look of the E class Dave and I do like my big cars, but the E class is just a little TOO big for what I need at the moment :) The C has just the right mix of not being small, not being huge, being light enough to be really efficient and also nimble when I want it to be. Had it two weeks now nearly and am still loving every minute. Another drive up from Northampton tonight for new years and where I was thinking of taking Friday off, I'm now going to drive down and back again on Friday, because in the MB, it's just effortless and a pleasure :bannana:

Be careful. These cars can go to stupid speeds.

Thought it had a top speed of 136mph? I stick it on cruise control at about 76 on the motorway and just point it, lol.

You're new here, aren't you ?

:D

A long-since member, let's call him Dave, was prosecuted for doing 138mph in his on the M74

Mercedes have a history of understating their top speed - unless electronically limited.

Good to know :)

I tend to get my speed kicks on track days in a different car. I think the last time I did anywhere near that speed on a public road I was about 22, much more foolish and there was a much smaller chance of me getting caught, lol.

Hi HollowPoint.
I'm seriously thinking of getting the C220d Sport 125 edition Estate model very soon. Is yours a 125 edition?
I just wondered what MPG you were getting and now you've had the car a while the things that you don't actually like that much. Are there any?

Very little that I don't like on mine. Almost inconsequential niggles are:
  • water lurking in obscure places when washing the car and only choosing to run down the doors or onto the rear bumper when the car is left alone, thereby creating annoying water streaks that require attention an hour later;
  • the reminder of the speed limit has an uncanny knack of popping up in the central display at the precise moment you want to look at something else, so you have to wait for the sign to disappear;
  • the rear-view mirror isn't motorised so SWMBO and I have to adjust it whenever swapping over (the memory pack does everything else wonderfully);

Oh, hang on, that's it. Everything else I love.

AFAIK, the 125 Edition was just that it came with free COMAND. A much bigger engine on mine so no point in commenting on the MPG, other than to say it's mighty impressive for a 306bhp motor that pulls the car to 60mph in under 6 seconds.

I would thoroughly recommend one of these for that very issue Metro Vac - Sidekick Blaster - Clean Your Car
Fantastic piece of kit; they do larger versions.
