Hi all
Last time I fitted a Mercedes OEM battery to my CLS55 for £180 or so and it's now failed after only two and a half years. I'm reticent to buy another as the warranty is only two years. What other batteries would you recommend? A Varta H3 Silver Dynamic 100Ah 830CCA is only around £100 including delivery and with a 5 year warranty. Would that do the job for a '55? Or should I be spending more on an AGM battery such as a Varta G14 Start-Stop (95Ah, 850CCA)? Thanks a lot for any advice :)

An AGM (fleece) battery is the one in the MB EPC for a CLS55

Part # A 005 541 25 01 for a 12v 100Ah

Part# A 00 554 110 01 for a 12v 95Ah

I'd get the Varta G14 which has a 4 year guarantee or Bosch or Yuasa equivalent

I bought a Yuasa 12 months ago for my CLS55.
Yuasa AGM Start Stop Plus YABYBX9019.
£156 inc VAT from my local motor factors. They also got rid of my old one FOC.
I've used Yuasa on several machines over the years without problems - which is what you want.

I would ask MB/Dealer for some goodwill, these normally last 10 years+

Are you sure its dead?

Try a slow 12 hour charge.

Hi
There is a chassis break point on the CLS 55 regarding whether you need a AGM or Lead Acid battery, my car was originally specced with a AGM, and was replaced by a lead acid.
If you post up the last seven digits of youre VIN No. (from the letter "A") I can tell you which one it is.
I believe it is to do with the Battery Control Module and how it charges the batteries.
Mine is a genuine OEM Lead Acid 100AH (VIN No.A056857), but any 019 lead acid is suitable, I replaced mine at one point with a AGM VARTA from TAYNA and it lasted less than three years and the car was never able to maintain a 100% charge according to my CEETEK Bluetooth battery monitor.

I put a brand new MB battery in my S500 and it lasted a year basically (although I believe I did help to kill it).

The car already had a new aux battery when I bought it and I was informed by the inde I got the main battery from that the supplying dealer should have replaced both batteries at the same time.

Makes sense I guess.

I used to use the car all week (130 miles) and then come Monday morning, I got "click" and after a while the battery would eventually kick into life and start the car.

I reported it to MB who took the car in and agreed the battery was shyte and replaced both main and aux FOC under warranty (2 years on MB batteries).

The new batteries have lasted 2 years so far although I know leave my car on a trickle when not in use as it is sat around for a while each time at the moment.

I am sure I heard it was 3 years warranty on batteries from MB - would certainly be asking regards that or goodwill before forking out your cash again after just 30 months use.

I already tried a slow charge, it didn't make any difference unfortunately (apart from very short term maybe). Will ask for some good will though, good idea :-)

Thank you, I will post the VIN as soon as I can :)

That's what I had in my mind too, but I spoke to Mercedes yesterday and they said it was two years! Now having seen the link posted below. I will be back on to Mercedes today.

When my agm wouldn't take a charge , I took all the caps off the top. Topped up each cell will deionized water , and stuck 4amps into it overnight. It worked .

Update! Spoke to Mercedes who would potentially now cover the battery under warranty as it's less than 3 years old. Unfortunately, they'd need the car for a minimum of 3 hours to test it and seeing as I live 20 miles away it just isn't practical as I'd waste most of a day getting there and back (they can't give me a courtesy car), so I think I'll just have to put it down to experience. Thanks a lot for all the advice though :-)

Hi. The last 7 digits are A034148. Thanks :-)

Do you have Mobilo cover? I wonder if the battery was to go flat and they came out if that would make any difference?

They will test it and if need be offer to replace it, speaking from experience.

Can you not drop the battery off to them?
