Hi, i was looking at getting my CLK 230 kompressor chipped or remapped to improve the performance i was just wandering if anyone else had this done and if they could recommend the best one!

Thanks Tim

i loked at it for mine but only boosts to 201bhp when you already got 193bhp not worth the money in my opinion

Hi Tim,

It's not really worth remapping or 'chipping' an M111 230K engine IMHO. The gains are very small and not really worthwhile for the outlay. There's been quite a few discussions on this over the years, and a few members have first hand experience with tuning attempts on this very engine.

There are other ways of extracting slightly more power from these engines, but they are a little more involved and costly.

I think the general consensus is that it's cheaper and more effective to upgrade to a more powerful model normally when you consider the costs and pros/cons of everything.

Ok cheers, i managed to find quite afew chips which took the power from 193 to 228 and torque from 280 to 328..heres one:

Mercedes*-*Uk Chip Tuning

Unfortunately Tim, they don't/won't deliver what they promise :(

It's been looked into and attempted many times before.

A pulley change (to increase boost pressure) coupled with a remap (to make the most of it) is the best route to improving performance on a supercharged engine - not cheap though and even then you might only be getting close to the 228 bhp claim on the link you provided.

Best save your money and put it into another car with a bigger engine more powerful engine to start with......then you can start chipping it.

I have the 320 (112) and was told that its not worth trying to chip for the small power gain.

Pretty certain there is a member on here with a 230k that hes tweeked.

Best way is as Bobby Dazzler says...

Kleemann Pulley Change with K-Box

Probably better to put the money towards a more powerful model though, the kit is about £1800 fitted!

Then you can change the headers, cat etc for another £1300 and you are sitting behind a lot more powah!

flania has a CLK230 with Brabus pulley and software.

Would be hellishly expensive to retrofit to a car.

Thing is, now 208 CLKs are so affordable, it makes very little sense to spend £££s if not ££££s on engine modifications when you can upgrade to larger engined model for so little.

Even 430 V8 cabriolets are quite cheap these days - there's a late model one near me with very low mileage (37k IIRC), great spec (COMAND + other goodies), it was only about £8k I think

In my mind, selling the 230K, putting £1/2k to it and upgrading to a well specced, low mileage V8 would be a bargain and will probably be more sound financially come resale etc :)

ok cheers for the help :)

think im just gunna have to leave the car as is..was hard enough gettin insured on that..let alone anything more powerful..

thanks tim

If you chip it the insurance may be far higher than buying the larger engined version.......

yeah think im just guna leave the car standard..insurance is costing me a bomb anyway..

Hi Tim,

It's often surprising to find that larger engine models make less difference than you might think insurance-wise.

I'm not saying you should change your car, but you may find a difference of, say, only 20% between the 230K and the 430.

I would think that by the time you have chipped the 230K, added an aftermarket exhaust and different pulley, the insurance on your current car would be about the same, if not more (most insurers aren't all that keen on 'modifications;)

Enjoy the car, 208 cabriolets are nice cars regardless of engine and look lovely with the roof down on a sunny day
