I'm looking for a reliable garage who can service a 1987 W124 with a carb and really know their onions. I'm not having too much luck with the places I've visited. Any recommendations gratefully received.

Many thanks!

Thanks grober,

That's actually my thread! We've got a little way since then, have had a slightly frustrating experience with a couple of supposedly specialist garages. It's still rough as hell. I'm going to have this car for a while and looking for someone I can trust locally. I think you might be right, and going to someone who specialises in carbs is a good idea, I've actually found a small garage that does Volvos that I'm going to try for this particular issue, but I still need a good Mercedes service garage.

I would subscribe to a Ford Granada furum . And ask on there .I used to know a coloured guy on the Granada furum he did my 2.8 Granada he worked magic on the Pierburg carbs . My Grany never ran so well .That was all he did carbs .

How about Mercland? Jay is a forum sponsor and knows a fair bit about these older models - and if he’s not able to help I’m sure he’ll know someone local who would :thumb:

You are looking for a garage with one of these in regular use- forget digital fault code readers- you are still in the analogue era.

The best you could wish for ? Albert Locke in Rushden, Northants, he's been sorting Mercedes for 50 years, and he's a nice bloke, a real old fashioned garagiste ,off the A45, easy to find. Let me know if you want his number. :)

Over the years, I've had quite a few Pieburgs to bits, mostly Fords, they're horrible cheap things, I can't imagine they're the same things fitted to Mercedes Benz.

The Ford ones were made of Mazak (monkey metal) bits would break off, jets would seize in place etc etc. Obviously not the same at all. Could it be worth looking at contemporary Volvos' ?
