I want to give my 2000 R129 SL a good base to work from, can anyone recommend a good but not too aggressive cutting compound to use on it to get it back to a nice shine before applying a polish?

If you have a DA polisher, 3M perfect-it, a polish with a 3000 grit equivalent paint correction built in, but it does need to be applied by machine, not by hand.

Ah ok, I'll go with the first option as I have a bottle of that in the garage, does polish go off?, if not I'll try the other one as I have the Meguiars DA polisher which should be ok. :)

as the father of a detailer and picked up lots myself, please please prepare the car before start cutting into the paint. Tar remover, fallout remover etc blah blah blah, In my experience cant go wrong with Menzerna compounds
