I parked up my C270 Cdi Friday night and on approaching my car this morning i noticed the central locking wouldn't open the car. Using the manual key I opened the door and no alarm....everything was eerily silent. I tried to put the key in the ignition and nothing, the electric key lock wouldn't engage nor would the steering lock.

I suspect the battery is flat but over the course of 2 days suggest there is something draining it.

I will call the RAC tonight, would they be able to pinpoint the power drain? I don't want to take it to a stealer so I guess I'll have to find an indy with a STAR machine in London somewhere (any suggestions guys - more to the west of london would be very helpful).

When I bought the car the guy who sold it to me said that he had changed the "rear control unit" as this was causing a power drain. I suspect he never changed it and I hope his teeth rot due to that lie screwing me over on a Monday morning. :(

So what would be the best way forward after Mr RAC man starts her up?

Thar RAC man should be able to point you in the direction of the fault, i.e battery or alternator or power drain, and take it from there.

Could you have left something on?

Google c class seat controller, read somewhere a while ago controller under seat does not power down when ign of and flattens batterys, cheap cure is a relay on the supply wires triggered of the cig lighter.

Ps you should have posted this in the electrical section.

No I didn't leave anything on, since it's my new car I'm still awe inspired by the see you home lights and I just look at them for 15 seconds before I walk away from the car ^_^

Gay? I know but it's my first merc

RAC man came and started her up with great difficulty :( he said he had to reboot the computer. He narrowed it down to a power drain of 1.15 amps, however removing fuses from the bonnet, boot & side of drivers dash the 1.15amp drain wouldn't go down to 0.1 or near enough.

He undid the two connections for the electric seats and still no change.

Any ideas guys?

In other news, RAC are better than AA was the quote from the RAC man :p

found the problem!

it's the electric heater! it's always on.

How much are they? Sounds very expensive

What do you mean the heater. The blower fan or the auxillary heater.
The former will probably be the fan control unit, the latter is probably the relay.

If it's the aux heater, I'm sure you can live without if for now.

its the aux heater, the electric one

If it's just a relay then that's a quick fix. How can we go about getting the relay checked? I think the mechanic will want to change the whole unit

It will have a relay in the front SAM somewhere.
