Hi guys,

As you (probably) know the dashboard in the SLK is a rough surface, what do you use to clean it???

A normal cloth leaves little bits of fluff everywhere?!

Cheers!

Sam

MB used to do a special microfibre cloth specifically for the R171's dash. They sent me one free of charge when the car was about a year old. Not sure whether they're still available, though.

EDIT: Just been out to the car. It's part number A 000 986 08 62, and came with the following instructions:

Dear customer,

Thank you for choosing Mercedes-Benz. We trust you are delighted with your new SLK-Class.

Your vehicle features an extermely high-quality, matt surface in the cockpit and door area which is intended to underline the car's sporty character. To ensure that this surface stays in pristine condition for years to come, we have included a soft cloth made from high-quality microfibre material to help with the interior care of your vehicle.

To remove light spoiling such as dust, dampen the cloth slightly before use. Heavier soiling can be removed by soaking the microfibre cloth in water with a few drops of household washing-up liquid added to it. For more stubborn stains caused for instance by drinks, perspiration or greasy substances (eg: suntan lotion or hand cream), use the cloth together with Mercedes-Benz cockpit cleaning agent A 000 986 47 74.

Your cloth can be washed at up to 95 C, wash temperatures of 40-60 C should be quite sufficient however. Use a mild soap or light detergent but do not add fabric softener as this impairs the micro-fibres' cleaning properties. If you do iron the cloth, set the iron to a low temperature.

I always use a damp chamois leather to wipe the interior dash/trim/glass, doesn't leave any fluff, dust or ridiculous shine that should't be there.
