Like how he still tries to steer it, in total disbelief will power alone.

He was a lucky boy, imagine that happening on a corner:crazy:

Did you see at the very end of the clip the chap move out of the way of the wheel as it came down in the public area..

Notice just before going into the tyres his natural instincts make him steer away from it.

They're going to have to rethink the wheel restraining cables too - they didn't seem to have any effect at all.

It just goes to show quite how much of a top-class driver's control inputs are (almost) subconcious.

This is going to be hugely serious for Torro Rosso. Apart from the structural integrity issues, the wheels going off like that and over the catch fencing will be looked at closely.
Could have ramifications for all other constructors and the Circuits:crazy:

If this had happened on race day....

Yes going into corner 1 surrounded by other cars and with a full crowds standing the other side of the fence.....doesn't bear thinking about.

It gives you a good idea of the vast amount of energy that these things generate. That's a pretty big bang.

Was it the brakes exploding when heavily applied, or the hubs failing, or the struts? Very odd that both sides went simultaneously.

I doubt they will get into trouble for the actual misdemeanour of the wheel tethers not being effective, but they might get into trouble for whatever fault caused the whole front suspension on both sides to disappear!

From what I read, RH upright strut went first and then LH immediately after as it couldn't take the all stress on its own. As it was apparently a new design one would imagine either faulty manufacture or insuffcient testing back at the office; they have gone back to the previous incarnation for the rest of the weekend.

Just ask Mercedes-Benz about the consequences of racing cars or parts thereof flying into spectators :(

Absolutely.

Looking at that clip and the unique failure profile, my money is on the braking causing resonant frequency destruction.
