between each gear it had to reach 2600rpm before it wd change. But it wdnt go any higher than 5th ear.

I would say so!

The pressure is to high for any such repair 👍
OK Thanks DSM 10000 - I'm just waiting for the BENZTECH chap to respond and hopefully sort it

Do they carry spare parts?

Possibly a dealer only part.
I think not - Guessing we'll have to get any bits from MERC OXFORD

Hello DSM10000. Got the new hose from Merc (£80) and Mobile Mechanic fitted it just now.
NO CHANGE - Still has to rev to 2,600 RPM before it changes up and will only change up to 5th gear - He then ran checks with his £2,000 machine and all we got was 2 GLO PLUGS were a bit dodgy and DPF Excessive Soot - I'm not sure about the Soot as I give it a good blast at least twice a week. Any idea what the problem could be ?

He cleared that codes for the GLO PLUGS and SOOT and the engine light went off . It came back on when I took it for a drive

No idea on this.

Regardless of how expensive his diagnostic machine he hasn't solved it!

It's as much about having the knowledge to interpret the codes as reading them

I would suggest finding someone with the Mercedes Star /Xentry system.

I FOUND THIS ON A DEC 2015 POST 0N MBCLUB so it looks like its not unknown

Hi all. I have a 2014 E-Class 250 Saloon, bought from new in Sep 14. I have had to ask the dealer on 2/3 occasions now to look at the gear shifting logic in 'Econ' mode. The car stops shifting at its normal range and allows the RPM to increase to approx 2800-3000 RPM before changing gear. During this situation I can also no longer select 'Manual' mode either by 'paddling' the shift or by selecting the manual mode through the pedestal mode selector, but I can shift up using the paddles once the RPM reaches approx 2300-2600 RPM; I can't shift down using this method! This results in a high RPM and uncomfortable acceleration! It was checked and corrected 6 months ago, but I still noticed occasions where it appeared to shift gears at higher than normal RPMs. This week it stopped working normally and is now shifting gears at just under 3000 RPM all the time; I now also have the engine diagnostic light lit on the dash. Very occasionally, I can stop the car restart it and the gears operate normally for approximately 1 min and then it reverts to this non-normal mode. The earliest I can get the car seen is on the 22 Dec. Has anybody seen this before? Thanks.

In an automatic gearbox gearchanges are accomplished by a series of clutches and brake bands which are hydraulically operated. The fluid pressure for this is provided via the automatic transmission fluid by internal gearbox pump/s. It sounds as if this hydraulic pressure is low and the most likely cause of this would be a low gearbox fluid level. The gearbox talks to the engine electronically and a gearbox fault will often illuminate the engine warning light. I would suggest getting the gearbox fluid level checked ASAP Even if it proves OK it may be wise to check when when the fluid and filter were changed last.

FROM MB CLUB NICK M JAN2019
HIS CAR WAS ONLY CHANGING UP AT 3000 REVS BUT SEEMS SORTED NOW

Yes I managed to get it sorted but unfortunately it wasn’t an easy replacement of transmission levels!

I had to change the mass air flow unit and the sensor that sits underneath it in the engine bay! I didn’t take it to a Mercedes dealer, used a specialist garage instead, to fix so it wasn’t as expensive, around £1400 to fix everything!

One thing I did find, that kept the costs down, was some Mercedes dealers have eBay shops and sell new parts at a fraction of the price! I bought the parts and got them fitted (included in the above price!)

It’s all back to normal and running smoothly now!

Looks very similar to my problem except his gears are changing up at 3000 rpm. So it looks like I will get someone to look at the MASS FLOW UNIT and the SENSOR

Hello DSM 10000
I had the new hose fitted but still no good.
The guy from BENZTECH arrived today and fixed it in half an hour for £60.
He forced a DPF regen using his OBD unit and the car is now back to normal.
Mercedes was suggesting a new TCU for many hundreds of pounds.
Anyway, Thanks again for all your help.

Glad to see this was fixed. But what was the 1400 quid for?
Out of curiosity, what is your average trip leigh? (Maybe it is too short perhaps?)

Yes, I am only doing 6 or 7 thousand miles a year now but I always give the car a rapid run for 20 miles down to Newbury or Bicester a couple of times a week
Under boost will also prevent regeneration of the dpf.

Confusion re the £1,400 quid - That was a excerpt taken from another member on the MB CLUB site in 2019

I see. I'd say you'd be far better off with a petrol at that mileage.
Yup ... But I'm 80 now so hoping this old truck will see me out ;-)
