Just thought i'd give you guys a heads up on buying wheels on ebay.

There are a number of sellers selling AMG wheels like the link below:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AMG-18-INCH-A...oryZ9888QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AMG-MERC-17-I...82QQihZ020QQcategoryZ9888QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

These wheels are FAKES. Despite looking OEM, with all the correct engravings, they are cheap knock offs. No printing on the back of the wheels, just the wheel size.

I purchased a set of 18 inch wheels, spoke to the guy and he was admanant they are original. His version:

"well they are made in the same factorry AMG make their wheels in Italy, so they are 100% the same apart form they don't have AMG printed on the back. They aren't cheap copies from Japan but high quality wheels....... but they don't have a country of manufacture imprinted on them"

Beware when you buy AMG stuff on ebay, fakes are getting better.

Is that AMC I see on them?

No, they have ///AMG on them, as per the OEM wheel. To look at they are identical, its when you look at the back of the face, they have no markings

Have you reported him? Ebay's usually pretty quick to remove ads for fake items.

No. If i report him to ebay then its up to me to prove to them thy are fake. At the moment this selller ha shown what looks an OEM wheel in his advert with a description that states this.

More headache than its worth.

Perhaps if others who have bought from this seller had reported him, you might not have found yourself purchasing a fraudulent copy ?

Who owns the right to use "AMG" - Mercedes?

Whoever it is, trademark/brand owners are usually pretty keen to crack down on eBay fakes. Many of the designer brands have people monitoring eBay and I would imagine that a safety critical item like a car wheel would be something that a brand owner would really not be keen to see being faked.

Edited to add: Try dropping an email using the 'contact us' link that appears after the short video at: http://www.mercedes-amg.com . I would be surprised if Mercedes didn't take any action.

I didn't mean necessarily activating the dispute resolution process, I just meant using the "report this item" link at the foot of the page.

Trading standards also take this seriously.

Worth a call.
