A couple of weeks ago I changed the fluid and filter in my 722.6 auto box. I had been very cautious about using an additive to try and relieve annoying luck up clutch judder that has plagued the car since I've had it. Thanks to forum members I narrowed the problem down to sticking valves/ solenoid operation. I thought before I take the conductor plate/ valve block etc apart I should at least give the 'lotions & potions' route a go, bearing in mind this transmission is widely used by Chrysler in the States.
Normally after adding the Quick clean the car is run for 10 minutes on a lift going through the gears and then flushed using a pump vacuum machine to exchange the fluid. My own version of this was a quick thrash down the road going through the gears but making sure it locked up the converter. Back on the lift, drained fluid, removed sump filter, use old filter stub pipe with extension into container of fresh fluid and flushed a couple of litres through the system. New filter and fluid and it works! Only the faintest vibration exists now on full load lock up in Comfort where it's holding onto bigger gears. So thanks to Charlie Hirst, BG's rep in the South West for nagging me to try it. As an aside he's already been successful on curing this ailment on Range Rovers.
For any sceptics I did a filter and fluid change at the last service 10000 miles ago (137k) and there was no improvement.
Cheers
Tim.
