My friend has a T plate A Class she has been to merc and traded in for a new one she is picking up on sunday from the dealer but we have a problem,
The thing will turn over but not fire . ((petrol))
it was fine but she did say it has been getting harder and harder to start and that sometimes when she is sat at lights it stalls.
Is this a known fault and what can it be??
time is not on our side as you can guess..
any help please

Tow it to the garage the night before and park it in a bay...

Do the deal on the new one and drive off quick....

There probably fleecing you anyway (assuming a 'proper' dealer)

Joking aside if its the starter motor I've heared these are a bit of a pig of a job to change? Your sure its not the battery?

Hopefully someone will be around soon to offer better advice.

If it is a T plate a class then I assume it is going to be scrapped under the Govt scheme anyway? CAn not be worth more than £2k as a trade in?

You may have a point there two 0n pistonheads for under 2k both 99 models.
Maybe ring the dealer and see what if anything they will do on the deal.

if it is a scrappage one, ring them up saying "i'm afraid we can't do the deal because....." and se what response you get.

It doesn't have to be running for the scrappage deal. Even the MOT can have expired, as long as it's within the last 2 wks.

not helpin peeps

not really helpin. the car is an auto and at the mo we have got no way of towing it to the dealer . i would rather get it going for her . does any body have any ideas on what it might be. im sure on the last service the dealer siad there was a fault with the immob but they sorted it out for her>>>

Have you tried the spare key (if you have one). Sometimes with immobiliser issues if you lock the car then unlock it and try again it will start.

Having said that, I don't think the engine turns over with immobiliser faults?

Could be all sorts of things though. Crankshaft position sensor going intermittant is common these days on many cars.
