Big service. Big Price

MobiloLife offers free repair by a Mercedes-Benz Authorised Repairer in the event of the bodywork perforating due to corrosion from the inside out.

Up to 30 years´ cover.

Could you please post the link or correspondence that differs from the current latest information please.

I think most repairs we read about are all good will gestures and we have read a number of posts where owners have no service history and are fortunate enough to get goodwill repairs plus we read posts of members that have a full service history (note the wording) and sometimes they either do not get a repair, they have to pay a percentage, or it's a goodwill repair.

I thought the dealer was just the go between. We report the defect to the dealer, the dealer reports the defect to Mercedes-Benz and then Mercedes-Benz authorise the repair? Are you saying the dealer refused the repair without contacting Mercedes-Benz?

The dealer took pics of the rust and sent them to MK. I tried for two weeks to contact my dealer to find out what was going on with the claim. Left over 10 messages to call me back.

Then by fluke I got someone on the phone who said that MK had said that the pics were not clear enough. Then the guy from the dealership came to my house, took more pic and looking at the bootlid rust said that it should definately be covered.

Two weeks later and again after several calls caught someone on the phone and they told me that the claim had been rejected as the rust is coming from outside in !!!!

I complained to the robotic MB cust service in Nederlands - they said that they would investigate.

In the meanwhile I got a call back from the Service manager at my dealership saying that the car was 1 month out of warantee hence the claim is being rejected.

A week later MB Nederlands called back saying the same thing.

I took it further to the very top of MBUK.........they then decided to repair the car.

The car was repaired, but in the process they damaged my alloy wheels, put the wrong badge on the bootlid, damaged my drivers side glass. The car had to go back 3 times to get this lot rectified.

Eventually got the car back 1 week ago and asked the warantee question from the MB regional manager for the UK. I was told that Mobilo / MBUK have changed the warantee from 30 years to 8 years for the older models.

Also for a matter of interest I owned a 1995 Honda from new for 11 years and in the 11 years there was not a spot of rust on it and was also bulletproof reliable.

I certainly don't think Mercs provide a good service in the way of reliability or bodwork quality.

There is no excuse in this day and age for cars to rot ....especially very expensive ones !!!

It certainly sounds like you were given the run around and it would be great if you could get that controversial claim in writing. All of us that have Mobilo covered vehicles also have documentation that states we all have 30 year cover from perforation due to corrosion from the inside out.

What warranty was the service manager referring to? You stated your car was one month out of warranty?

Parrot of Doom, Just read through your attached files, very interesting. Out of curiosity, what is the "Actuated Charcoal Filter" and where is it located ?

Gets rid of smells.

Located near the dust filter under the passenger side dash.

I've just been told about the 8 year rule as well. Was chatting to the Merc garage in Perth about brakes and the history of my new car. He chatted me through the service history, warranty claims, etc and then when I asked about htis mobilo thing he explained it all in great detail. These days they will gtee the bodywork up to 8 years then after that it is at the garage/mercs discression with no definite gtees that the work would be considered after 8 years.
For £400 plus I don't see the benefit in merc servicing the car to keep this particular gtee in place year on year as I could have a service, MOT, and breakdown cover all for less than the price charged by a dealer. Other of course than the full MB service history.

When I queried this 8 yr rule it seems it is a fairly new thing (within the last 2/3 years anyway) as I guess they were losing too much cash on claims up to 30 years.

My documentation does however state 30 years. Curious.......!
