Thats filmed either at Jaws or Outer Log Cabins ....
Two amazing deepwater reefs off Hawaii , they only start working when the swell reaches 45 feet , IIRC the record for the biggest wave ever ridden was set there ....

However, looking at it , i've got a feeling it is Ken Bradshaw at Outer Log Cabins on the record breaking run , if so, then that wave face is 85 feet ...

I can remember going to some of the Northern beaches of Hawaii, just to watch these crazy surfers, no wayyyyyyyy hozee. I have NO idea where that footage was taken, but there were some very BIG waves to be surfed off the northern beaches.

Biggest waves you will see on a beach in Hawaii are at Waimea ...
Never breaks more than 30 feet though ....
You need an offshore reef to handle the really big stuff .....
There are only a few places worldwide that have truly massive waves , Jaws, Outer Logs in Hawaii , Mavericks in the US (Nr San Fran) , The Cortez bank (70 miles offshore of the US in the Pacific , Todos Santos in Mexico .... thats pretty much it.
There have been rumours of a giant wave that appears off Hossegor in SW France occasionally although only a couple have ever ridden it . Its called 'Belhara' .... Here it is .....the chap in the picture is about to have a major seeing to ......

My mate and I were so bad at surfing our American hosts thought we were professional comedians. We only surfed from Waikiki.
I don't think folks realise just how much coral type stuff there is off those blooming beaches
It certainly played havoc with my delicate skin Aloha
