Biofuel timebomb

We should mostly be OK though
Mercedes-Benz:
E10 petrol is cleared for use in the vast majority of all Mercedes Benz vehicles with petrol engines, except:

- First generation direct injection C200 CGI (W203), CLK 200 CGI series (C209) of the years 2002-2005;

- Models not equipped with three-way catalysts or produced with a carburettor. These are mainly vehicles older than 25 years.

I remember commenting on this in the forum before in relation to MB cars. If I remember correctly German owners had identified a few more Mercs than are mentioned by Pistonheads as being susceptible to damage but by and large MB has come off lightly except for the classics. My daily cars are OK but the older ones passed on to the family (Daihatsu and Honda) seem to be in danger of seal damage from biofuel content.

...Europe's Renewable Energy Directive ...requires members of the European Union to ensure that 10 per cent of energy used in road transport is from a renewable source by 2020.

Don't worry, the EU won't exist in 2020.

I wonder what will happen when someone fills a diesel car with bio petrol ;)

It was very prevalent in France when I was there in my 72 BMW 02 this May - I ended up using the higher octane stuff to be safe. It is an utter pain.

Used it in the W202 when I drove through Spain/Morocco...

It fixed the issue with the fuel tank sensors that I had had for years...

I'll be extraordinarily p****d off if it affects my SM!

I'm sure the Holland Road service station will cater for drivers whose cars can't use E10, just as they continued to sell leaded petrol (at a price!) long after it had disappeared from other forecourts.

They probably hadn't actually sold any of it.

Anyway, by the time I have been in, filled up and returned, all 90 litres would have been consumed. A little heavy on the petrol is the Maserati V6.

They sold a fair few tankfuls to me, before I decided it was more cost-effective to have hardened valve seats fitted.
