Bizzare Cruise Control Setting

Got a 5 yo CLK 280. All works well. Have an annoying issue with the CC. When driving and exceeding a preset speed, 120 kph in my case, a short chime sounds to indicate speed limit exceeded. At that point I cannot activate the CC. If want it activated, I have to do it while speed is below 120. So let say I have activated CC starting from 119 kph and keeping the lever up till the speed reaches 140 kph. So far all is good, no issues. However, if for some reason I have to drop down to say 130 kph (slower vehicle in front of me), it is not possible to reset the CC back to 140 kph. All CC controls, display toggles, etc. are blocked and do not respond. In order to reset back to the original 140 kph setting I have to then drop back to below 120 kph, at which point the reset function works okay. This is not only annoying but could also result in an accident if I don't pay careful attention to the situation around me. As a side note, I don't think the mentioned 120 kph speed limit has anything to do with the max speed limit that is set up and cannot be physically exceeded. Any suggestions?

Winter tyre setting? It's called "permanent speed limiter" or something on my 211.
Is what you call "permanent speed limiter" a device that would prevent you from going beyond a preset speed value? I have no problem going above the 120 kph limit mentioned in my original post. Thanks

If you want to go above 120kph, why have you set the limiter? Just switch it off.

you need to have some coding changed I suspect.

I have not set anything. The 120 kph is preset as the local legal speed limit and only serves the purpose of alerting the driver that the limit has been exceeded. The actual speed limiter is set far above the 120 kph and plays no role in my problem. It's just that above 120 kph I can do nothing with the cruise control. Only below 120 kph.

Using the steering wheel buttons, go into the menu system and check the winter tyre speed limit warning is not switched on and see if that makes any difference.

Russ, thank you! Tried it, didn't work. Must be some bogus computer programming setting......?
