Black Grille

At risk of offending the "Chav" police, I'm toying with the idea of getting a black grille for my W212 E63.

Theres just something I dont like about the cars looks. I'm a fan of the sleeping giant but not if it looks like Grannys Sleeping Giant.

I didnt notice it when I bought the car but it's really started to bother me. Maybe I am turning into a chav.

I'm thinking side skirts, splitter, rear diffuser, wheel spacers and possibly a black grille.

Should I get my coat......?

Kidding. Yeah all sound great. Imho murdered out W212s look superb.

I think it will look great. Chrome has no place on a vehicle, murdered look all the way.

What you do is your business - not my taste but, not my car! Personally, I find the looks of that car in post #2 chavvy. Thankfully we are all different!

I agree on the black look. Chrome looks very old fashioned (IMO). My gloss black grille is due on Friday.

There is a fine line between Granny's sleeper car and defacing the car so it looks like a drug dealers ride.

Very nice motor, the Black grill is definitely better, looks great.

There is such a thing as too much black and the car in post 2 shows this very well. The cars design and finer details dissappear IMO. However if your car is a light colour, silver for instance, then black grilles and door mirrors etc can look quite effective.

Not my cup of tea, sorry, and TBH to me, the pics in post #8 look like the grille’s missing completely. I think the big bold star made a statement, giving the car more ‘presence’. The black grille is maybe OK on a black car - if going for the ‘stealth look’?

But then I’m old enough to remember when no chrome meant poverty spec.

Before even buying my C43 I REALLY disliked the diamante grille (way too bling car plus every facelift Sport model W205 now seems to have it fitted as standard), so I changed to the facelift single bar AMG grille - still in-keeping with the model and it's not pretending to be anything it isn't (yes I'm looking at you, C43's with Panamerica grille's!!!) and importantly still OE parts.

I think it depends on the colour of the car, some colours it looks good, others it looks tacky.

Don’t want to offend anyone as it’s a personal thing, so I’ll keep my comments as to what colours it looks tacky on to myself

Do it if you want too, its your car after all, on my w204 i put carbon fibre bits on it, i think it looks stunning against the white, what about a black panamerica grill?
