I've been looking to fit the steering wheel from the Black Series CLK for a while. But when I asked MB, I was nearly laughed out of the showroom!
I also read on another forum it was not possible. But decided eventually to order it anyway - and hope for the best.
Last night I found some other info on MBworld, and the message was it's virtually impossible as all the electronics are different. And that, was just problems with airbag and function buttons.
So, this morning when the parcel arrived, I was expecting a few weeks of dissapointment and knock backs.
First and most important was the airbag issue. If I couldn't get this to work then the whole thing was off. Second would be the function buttons. I've found how to piggy back the circuit boards and I would need an experienced auto electrician to solder everything together.
And all that's presuming it will physically fit a c-class!
Phoned my mechanic and asked if he could spare an hour or so, just to take existing wheel off and connect new airbag and see if the connections were the same and if the car would recognise it.
An hour later the old wheel is in the pass footwell. An hour after that the new wheel is on, airbag connected and multifunctions working!!!!!
Straight swap. As easy as that. I couldn't believe it!:bannana:
I can now continue to source the parts for the paddle shift conversion.
An expensive upgrade but worth every penny - looks and feels fantastic!
How good would it look with a CLK cluster??!!!
