To put on the w124? Didn't think you could run black and silver?

I've bought different types of plates off eBay... Pressed, gel plates and I can't complain with quality and I'm very fussy about my plates.

In regards to black and silver I don't know but id imagine they're fairly good quality.

Failing that there's a quality plate specialist down the road from me. I can't remember their name but it's in holmbush st Austell. They specialise in old plates which they make themselves.

They are only road-legal on cars first registered before 1 January 1975. You have to apply to the DVLA in order to use them, and the car must be registered in the ‘historic vehicles’ tax class.

Presume you are aware of the following, unless they are solely for show use.

Vehicles that can display black and silver plates
Since April 2015 vehicles manufactured before 1 January 1975 can display the older style plates. You must:

    have applied to DVLA, and
be registered within the ‘historic vehicles’ tax class.

I'm sure it used to be pre-Jan 73, which would be about the old 'L reg'.
I can't see any rolling forward applying here... but seems it's changed ^^ then

Likewise , I was aware that the historic licence exemption now rolls onwards , but first I've heard that non reflective plates can now be fitted to later cars .

Anyway , lots of places make them - even Halfords !

Yeah, the non reflective plates can now be fitted to any car that's classed as historic.
I doubt that anyone buying a new car in the seventies walked in to the dealer and said "I want the old-fashioned number plates fitted on my new car".
Each to their own though .

It's the old school look it gives though. Just something different.

I've just ordered 12x6 pressed metal plates for my 190e

Now I don't like pressed plates really but these looked quite cool, to make them even more appealing I'm going to be spraying them with extra coats of lacquer to give them a really glossy finish.

I was picked up by the police driving my Triumph 2000 , And i had fitted silver and black plates on .These i thought were lots better than the crapy two tone ones of to day. The officer told me to get them changed or face a fine the next time he saw me on the road .My car was made in 1972 on a K plate

I have to admit I'd much prefer the Black and Silver pressed plates; they look very Sean Connery 007.....

That's the way it now reads - however , to my way of thinking , the only cars that ought to be allowed to have non reflective plates are ones which could legally have had them when new - ie pre-73 .

Next , they'll be rolling forward other things like seatbelt exemptions .

    Guys

I just needed to know if anybody had any of these plates and was happy with them ;ˆ)

I like the high gloss with the ribbed (oo err) lettering.

FYI: I am well aware the legislation surrounding this. As for it being enforced? That is all very subjective. It could be but in reality it is unlikely to be, if, you are driving within the law.

If you were to be stopped then you are likely to be asked to fit the correct plates and produce at a Police Station. Courts would be very unlikely to show the slightest interest in prosecuting if you are compliant to that request.

Anyway. Lets not have a battle about the law. I just needed to know who could make up a set of plates.

Ooh, Bruce the criminal - a new side is emerging.

You'll be back to your old ways soon enough, slippery slope!

Yes most likely scenario is being pulled over and told to change them within a certain time limit. But generally they are getting tougher on number plates now so this is possibly more likely to happen than you think, no matter how you are driving. But I do think they look good, so good luck!

I couldn't see your point from the first post but it makes more sense when taking your second post into consideration.

Personally I wouldn't want to flag my car for a pull by the police just in case I was rumbled for something unrelated.

Nobody asked what car they are for? or even if it is for my car?

I do fancy a bit of criminality sometimes ;ˆ)

Funny my mate the traffic policemen was of the opinion that it is very unlikely now that would get pulled for this if the plates were legal in every aspect (apart from year). The rationale being that there are now so many illegal plates that are simply unreadable, the impetus is on stopping these guys. This coupled with those who simply don't see the need to have front plates (some on here) makes Black & Silver for the bottom end of naughtiness.

This of course is all subjective. As if my mate is declined his bedroom desire with Mrs Mate he may just have a go anyway.

IIRC Jay (Manek) got pulled over for having black/silver plates on one of his cars.

Can I put some small letters on the bottom of plates. Rather like the the old dealer name thing?
