Blaupunkt Stereos - Use of MMC / SD Cards

Just thought I would share some knowledge regarding the use of MMC (multimedia cards) and SD (secure digital) cards in high end Blaupunkt Stereos (for playing back mp3 files). I have the "Los Angeles" tuner.

I've discovered that these units are very sensitive to the cards being formatted properly. The manual says that they should be formatted to "FAT16" specification, but apparently, Windows XP doesn't strictly keep to this protocol, so if you format a card in XP, it won't work in your Blaupunkt stereo!

The only option is to reformat it using 98/2000/NT, then the head unit will recognise it again!

I've struggled with this all day so I thought I'd share the knowledge so no-one else has to!! Apparently there is a firmware upgrade to the unit, but this involves sending it back to the manufacturers....

Thank you tosborne,

I've been looking for this info for many months. I haven't tried it yet but I'm looking forward to being able to use all my currently redundant cards that I've given up on.

I don't have this prob with mine - but then I've never had to format the card - just copy the files over and away I go.

Hi Pammy,

I foolishly formatted the cards when I bought them. It's just a habit of mine. It didn't occur to me that they would no longer work in the stereo. I've just got to find a Windows 2000 machine now. I only run XP. Bummer...
