Early this morning between the hours of 5am and 7:40am all the lights on my 98 W202 flashed on and off. This was both the interior and exterior lights. Then about 20 minutes later the hazard lights blinked rapidly and continued until I unlocked and then locked via central locking remote.
However, after a few seconds the hazard lights started blinking rapidly again. I haven’t driven the car since Monday but the car battery is about 12 months old. It’s still in good condition as I attached a multimeter to it and it was pretty much fully charged. My only option at the moment is to remove the car battery and attach to a CTEK battery reconditioned.
This is because even if I don’t lock the car, the car automatically locks itself and the hazard lights blink rapidly again.
I really can’t go to the only decent auto-electrician around here because he charges around £600 per day to fault find.
My understanding is that it has a factory fitted alarm/immobiliser and at one point this morning the alarm did go off when I unlocked it, but I’ve not been able to repeat that.
Any ideas….I’m based on the Wirral.
Thanks
PS. The timings above are due to me checking my camera to make sure it hadn’t been broken into, which it wasn’t.
