I pulled up outside a house yesterday and was greeted by a hissing sound, the result of which is a deformed tyre bead where it meets the inner rim .

I'm not aware of any thuds and try my best to avoid potholes etc, however, the upshot is 2 new tyres (I always change both on one axle if they are 4mm or less) and the car wearing it's rather ridiculous expandable space saver :(.

The downside of potholes, speed humps/cushions and 30 profile tyres I suppose :wallbash:.

Rant over...except to say that an initial online search revealed that ATS wanted £160 more per tyre than I'm going to be paying - what a bizarre pricing policy they must operate :dk:.

Same here, change both together. I have one Conti Sport 3 with about 5mm on it if anyone wants it? It's a 235/35/19 - I'm on 5P all round now so doubt I would ever use it.

Re 'upshot', and costs aside, it's a great feeling getting new tyres. Just like when the fuel gauge reads full.

New tyres are always quieter due to having more rubber to absorb the vibration.

Same here, hit a massive pothole in the middle of the road on Xmas eve and blew out the drivers side rear. Same thing, hissing sound when I stopped. I had to buy a Falken as they were all that was available and was 200 miles from home. TBH can't tell the difference between it and the Conti on the other axle though it is only a month old so plenty of tread.

What's odd here is that I really really don't recall hitting anything and it was the rush hour crawl for the most part :dk:.

I just pulled over, got out, and it was hissing loudly.

Did you straddle any speed cushions? The inner tyre wall can be severely distorted on the steep edges.

Possibly - there are some on the journey.

I had the same thing happen to me New Years Eve and I also don't recall hitting any potholes. When I opened my door to get out a gust of wind blew the door back into my knee thus putting a lovely large crack in my speaker cover:doh:

Had to leave the car where it was for 2 days until I had someone come out and replace both rear tyres to the tune of£340:eek:

What did you put the flat down to?

My neighbor seems to suffer with this issue on her BMW with low profile tyres. There are a number of speed cushions locally.

I think I'll be mounting, not straddling in future - she may benefit from the same.

I had to mount as the 203 was too low to safely straddle. I continue to do so with the CLS, much to the annoyance of the following car!

I really don't know. Like I said I didn't feel any potholes.

I was driving for 20mins or so when the car started to feel a little wallowy...When I tried to pump it up with the electric pump, the air was hissing out. When I looked closer there was a sizeable hole in it but that could have been because I had to drive it to somewhere safe

Not a nice feeling when you have to change tyres and fork out £££'s

being 19s i guess its even worse. Feel for you John, What brands you going for?

Just to correct this - it's National Tyres and Autocare, not ATS that wanted £412 for a tyre .

Amo - I'm sticking with PZero's - I like Goodyear Assymetric 2 but they were out of stock at both the wholesalers my preferred tyre shop uses.

The PZero's have worn well, are surprisingly quiet and they are MO.

30 Aspect ratio tyres and British Roads = SILLY These wheel tyre combinations may offer the best handling characteristics on billiard table smooth road surfaces but such shallow wall tyres are simply not fit for purpose on today's roads in the UK. Pointless to complain as things are not going to change any time soon. The price you pay for helping the manufacturer make a fashion statement sorry.

I wonder what the best compromise is in terms of size? If it's one size smaller, who cares, I'll stick with what I have as there's not much in it price wise. And I bet downsizing two or more is not an option.

That's the problem I think the brake assemblies are so big on these cars down sizing on wheel diameter may cause interference issues. Whether this could be got round with smaller dual calipers and more efficient brake cooling I don't know.
