blowing Exhaust W126

I have a 300se W126 91'. The exhaust is blowing in the engine bay from the bottom of the down pipes. I have checked the down pipes and there are no holes or any damage.

I spoke to a MB parts guy who said there is no gasket, its straight metal to metal. I asked if there was a gasket and he said no. Is this correct as I found that quite strange.

Surely there is a gasket of some kind of steel plate? Where can I get this part?

The bottom of the down pipes are usually under the car, not in the engine bay IIRC. Do you mean where the bottom of the manifold joins the top of the down pipe?

Yes you are absolutely right. Its blowing close to where the spark plugs are.

Would that mean my down pipes need replacing, I can't see any damage but there is a leak as I can feel it when I place my hand near it.

Exhaust Manifold Gasket was mentioned So I'll look into this.

If the manifold is leaking you should be able to hear it making a 'chuffing' noise. Check all the studs/bolts as one could have snapped. I have this problem on my 450 SEL at the moment.

I recently bought a genuine exhaust fitting kit for the same car and that had two gaskets for the joints between the manifolds and downpipes.

I got it from my local MB dealer, mind you it wasn't cheap, £110!
