I've done a foolish thing and need some guidance:

C200 COVER R.jpgDSC04883 R.jpg

1. Shortly after buying the C200 Kompressor, I pressed the two buttons on the sides of the storage compartment between the front seats.
---- Just to see what happened !!
See yellow arrows.
This opened the top part to reveal a little unit with a flashing blue light.
Here I am showing my total ignorance of modern communications devices.
I am guessing that this is a Blue Tooth.
I have no idea what it does or what it is for.
Any info would be appreciated - I am not into mobile phone technology.

2. Second (and much more important to me), I have been completely unable to replace the top on the box.
The bottom half of the top cover is still in place.
No matter how I try, I cannot get the top part to lock in place.
When I press the two side buttons, I can see some little spigots retracting slightly - But - No matter how I try I cannot get the thing to go back in place
.... which is a bit of a pain.
Does anyone know the trick ?

Any help appreciated.
Thanks.
J.

Its for the (antiquated) phone system in the car , just bluetooth your phone to it to enjoy the full 'back in the day' telephony experience. I have one in my 2006 S203 C class. Hardly ever use it.

Not sure why the lid wont close on your seat box . does the main lid not pivot open when you pull on the big handle ?

Your device is one of these

If the top doesn't lock, then the buttons much be a little stuck, press them a few times to see if they free up

Thanks ShaunB.
Is that what these little Blue-Toothy thingies are worth !!! ??
Make me an offer !!

I'll try your remedy for the buttons.
The way I read your advice confirms what I thought - Press both the buttons to retract the four little spigots, and it should latch back into place.
I was reluctant to give it too much welly for fear of making the situation even worse.

Hi Pete - The big handle is on the top part that I am trying to refit.
I can open the box by pushing down on the button that is shown on the front of the bottom half.
See red arrow below

Been a long time since I had my CLK55, but from memory, those side buttons you should only need to press one side.
You just press the drivers side button and the lid unhooks to get you easy access and be able to look inside it easily.
The passenger can do the same thing using their button.

Have you taken the lid off completely?

Hi ShaunB.
Yes - I did take the lid off completely.
That's obviously where I went wrong.
I've read the MBWorld thread .... I wish I'd read it before I made a mess of the job.
What a fiendishly-complicated arrangement for a centre-box lid and arm-rest.
I don't know what those clever MB designer/engineers were on that day - But it must have been some good stuff !!

I've eventually refitted the lid - although not in the manner that I was supposed to.
I used a G-clamp type of clamp to press and hold both sets of side buttons.
This enabled me to fold back the two legs at the rear, and then position the lid in place before releasing the clamp slowly and carefully.
This appears to have engaged the spigots and the lid is in place.
I just hope it holds together.
I can't see why not, but time will tell.
If it comes apart, I'll have the guide from the MBWorld thread to show me how to do it the recommended way.
Thanks for your help.
We have a result.

Wow ... I've just taken over half an hour to read all of the MBWorld thread.
It appears that half of the USA W203 C Class owners had the same problems that I've had with the centre console box lid.
This does not appear to have been one of MB's better ideas.
It's good to know it's not just me !
:)

Good to hear you got sorted John.
Just use one button in the future 😂
