Bluewater - Sat 22nd Sept

Still don't understand why the Venture One is any safer than a Morgan 3 wheeler.

It's smaller and classed as a motorcycle, but irrespective...the law says cars must have number-plates.

If you don't like that, write to your MP.

Councils don't mandate upholding speed limits, it's the law of the land.

So are you saying that because some motorcyclist abuse not having front numberplates, so you lot should be able to as well.

Err...doesn't that just echo the reason I said why "you" are deleting front numberplates...to break the law with impunity...

who is you lot?

who is you lot?

The pictures appear to have been taken at the Bluewater meet and you appear to be defending the action of removing front number-plates. (I know you have yours on)

The law says front number-plates are mandatory, there is only one reason for removal...to break the law without being caught.
There is more to vehicle identification than speed cameras.

I'm not defending any action, I simply asked a question. My statement on all vehicles only having rear plates was actually to stop road users from being able to flout the law not because I or others can't. I do my driving on the track plain and simple.

Now that plates are plastic or even stick on, I think motorcycles should have them too, even if smaller.

Exempt vehicles

(b)a pedestrian-controlled vehicle, that is a vehicle the unladen weight of which does not exceed 450 kilograms which is neither constructed nor adapted for the carriage of a driver or passenger.

and

(5) In the case of a motor cycle or a motor tricycle which does not have a body of a type which is characteristic of the body of a four-wheeled vehicle—

When there isn't anywhere to mount it to present it in a vertical or near vertical position.

Oh and I think it's Belgium that 'advises' the fitting of front plates but doesn't require it.

Belgium does require front numberplates.

Number plates in Belgium are driver specific. If you trade in your old car for a new one, you keep your old number plate.

The rear license plate is state supplied, while the front license plate is owner supplied.

It's the state of California that doesn't require front number-plates.

Does that make the Porsche ok then?

Hi Sav
Ive seen a few cars with number plates in their windscreens in a similar position to where a workman would put a rolled up copy of the Sun or a carton of milk
might support the oh it fell off excuse
nice pictures by the way thanks for posting them
might be worth checking the max and min height of the display position of a front plate
I saw a drastically lowered ( it was almost touching the road surface ) VW beetle with a front plate on the roof rack the other day, interesting

did you get some dinner first? Im sure i saw someone eating a pastie in Rashmans car..

California allows up to 6mths to get plates fitted, which is why if you change cars every 6mths you never need them. IIRC Steve Jobs never had licence plates on his cars ...

I'm sure that the requirement is to display a plate on the front of the vehicle as near vertical as possible, no mention of any height restrictions as it's not a light.

The reason some display their number-plates in the windscreen is so they can "lose" it off the dash at any convenient moment.

Technically it needs to be on the front of the car to be legal.

I know, but there is no requirement for front plates at all, which is why one has to park facing into a space, so plod can read plates as they drive past.

DM, you sure know how to make a thread boring....you're like a broken record.

Why don't you PM the two guys without front plates (I think they are both occasional users of this site) and seek their opinions rather than make snide remarks about all who attended, oh but I suppose you can't help yourself can you?
