BMW 635CSi

Yup lovely cars. I got taken to hospital in one many years ago after my right hand lost an argument with the prop on one of my r/c planes. I was so worried I'd bleed on the leather! :D

The guy I bought my current house off claimed he had one and kept it in the garage ... they must be smaller than I remember since my R129 only clears the doorposts by about 1" each side and there's not much space left lengthwise either!

When I was a young chappie, a friend of the family had a beautiful E24 M635 and I remember being taken for a ride in it! Have been hooked ever since; I still want to own one. And a W124 coupe.

<note to self: must get bigger house with garage>

Lovely motors, has got to be a late of the line 'Highline' model, with the extended leather on the dash & rooflining, & dechrome bumpers...

Are known to rust..... a lot!

Replacement front wings cost a fortune, & essential that all the toys are working, if buying one.

Another fan here. They're temptingly good value, but I suspect maintenance and repairs - mechanical, electrical and bodywork - would be pricey.

RUST, RUST and MORE RUST. Chassis based on the floorpan of previous generation of the 5 series with lots of potential rust traps. Lead to the early demise of many of them. I recall they had a very obscure tyre size/design which made tyres very expensive. great looking cars with that shark nose!
There was a 628 2.8 litre, a 635 3430cc 218bhp and the one to have the M635 CSi 24valve with 286 bhp and an engine it shared with the M1 mid engined supercar. Here's a pic of it in racing guise-- notice the drivers name;)

They were metric! This is why practially all 6ers have either wheels off other BMW models or some other aftermarket wheel fitted.

The highline is a great car....seems a bit cheap though for a fully restored model......whats the catch ???

Yep, they are called TRX I believe.

I had a 750 with these, tyres are a fortune!!

It's fair to say I'm quite bored at the moment...

Had the option as an 18 year old some years back to buy the Alpina version, but i could'nt stump up 4k for new exhaust and brakes and another 3k for the insurance... gutted

They are OK but thats about it. A friend had one and he took me out in it for a quick spin round the block. It was fast but it was also very noisy and seemed to have loads of rattles and squeaks and wasnt very comfortable. Not one I would ever have on my list of "wants". Now a 280SL is another thing altogether........

I know this isn't MB but this is one of my all time favourite motors - anyone else like these old beauties?

This is a pleasing Highline model on eBay

Loved the styling when I was younger and still think they are a classic today.

Probably very thirsty and a bit lumbering these days but nice all the same.

This has just shattered a dream for me.

I used to love these, even to the point that I nearly paid £12K for a one of the last minters in the mid-90's but couldn't scrape the necessary together at the time. I look at this now and it just looks soooo dated. More so IMO than MB's of the same era. Shame.

I still love 'em, you have to have the right colour combination, the Highline is pretty sweet. The de-chrome option can work in some colours, but on others the chrome still looks the part.

The 2 variants I have had the pleasure of being in, both were rapid and did not rattle  Both very solid motors.

I agree re: this price, seems a little low, but I'm not going to get too tempted, I don't have the storage space

Reference the tyres, similar problems with the XJ40 series Jaguar I recall, metric measurements. Not a smart move that

Autocar have a sh**box one that they are running around in ...

They bought it for £500 or something and are running it until it falls apart , part of a feature on buying sh**box cars and doing no maintenance and seeing how long they go for ....

Its a bright red one , see it in their car park from time to time .... front wings are proper rusty , more rust than wing ....

Restoration cost is the one thing that will keep values of these 6-series down in the future.

Look at the CS/CSi/CSL. They are seriously undervalued, because a rebuild is not only uneconomical, but in the worst cases, it's close to impossible.

The 6's now and will continue to suffer the same reputation, only partly by association.

A tight and tidy example of a 635 is a superb GT (if you can get comfy, and not everyone can, oddly), just as a 3.0CSi is. The CSL (real CSL, not UK-market CSL) is another thing altogether, but even then, they're not as pricey as heritage would suggest.

From memory 240/45r415 as rare as hens teeth only available as Michelin, were at one stage available as a remould (nice) but Michelin put a stop to that !
