BMW E61 Fault code P0171 with poor idle when at operating temperature.

As per the title.

A friend has a very nice E61 with the 3 litre straight 6 Automatic

It has recently developed a poor idle when warmed up but is fine when running from cold. It has also stalled once when fully warned up

The stored code was P0171 "System too lean Bank 1 "

From what we have found out Bank 1 refers to cylinders 1,2 and 3. Vacuum leaks seem to be a common theme when searching on line.

Has anyone here had any experience with these faults on this engine?

Hardly helpful.

Many members here have experience of different marques personally and professionally and I was therefore hoping some may have had some insight hence the question "has anyone here..."

I am sure that is so but I was asking for a friend who does not join forums and I wasn't going to do so on his behalf but good to know for the future
