BMW let 850 workers go.

I know a few people who work at the Cowley plant and I spoke with one of them this morning after hearing the news at 6am. Because the announcement was made one hour before the end of shift this morning and the plant is now on a week's shutdown, those who weren't on shift last night don't know if/how they are affected by the announcement. Nice. Also, many don't realise that "agency" workers at the MINI plant have often worked there for 2 or more years (some for four years) classed as temporary workers, effectively with none of the employment protection or rights that you would expect working for a premier employer. Good for BMW perhaps, but bad for the 850 individuals and their dependents.
Why don't BMW price their Minis at a realistic level for a small car then maybe people might just think about buying them again.
And the unrealistic pricing of the MINI explains why they sold 4.3% more of them in 2008 than they did in 2007, does it?

Trouble is everyone wants their new car at a "new realistic" price ..but wants their old one traded in at the "old realistic p/x" price....

Hope that means we'll be seeing less Mini's on the road.

including those hideous Clubman things
