Have just seen this, thought it was funny how it had to be rescued by a VW Tiguan.

It doesnt even look like deep snow.

Hopefully Mercedes wont decide to create an ALK to go agaist it!

Its a form of cubist camouflage to disguse the lines of the car as its only a prototype.

BMWs version of Designo

No, they actually cleaned the X1 with Halfords new detailing kit - damn those swirls

Looks like they stacked it into the fence too ....

Great publicity ....

supposedly shape disguising camouflage. by no means an original idea though, various navies did it with warships decades ago.
Yup called "dazzle camouflage", invented in WW1.

Some muppet will want to order it with that scheme :)

And also more recently.

RN experimented with it about 10 years ago with HMS Trenchant.

and apparently the submarine HMS Vanguard is almost impossible to see...

That was more of a matter of not being heard ....

Why would a sub need to be impossible to see anyway? they use Sonar etc

With the Trenchant experiment it was a matter of trying to use pattern to break up her hull shape if she was near the surface. Fleet boats are more likely to come up to periscope depth from time to time or operate in shallower waters.

However given the secrecy of submarine operations in general the downside of having a boat identifiably camouflaged with a unique pattern is that if she is spotted on or near the surface then you can identify the boat and nationality.

the joke was that the HMS vanguard was one of the two subs that collided earlier in the month...

:)

women drivers.............. should have had parktronic fitted:D
