I have recently bought a CLS and note a bobble bobble bumpy noise when driving over gently bumpy roads at low speed. The noise is quite noticeable and annoying and seems to be offside front. It isn't metallic and sounds like a bush (what does a bush sound like?!). Have fitted new steering arm in which I detected a bit of play, but no change. Could it be something to do with strut mount, I wonder. Doesn't appear to be over big bumps, just little ones! Have you any ideas???

Well it sounds something like that but it has just had MOT and I've had it into 2 garages, one main dealer who, I would have thought, would have picked that up. I think that the people who sold me it and have fitted new steering arm might have found a ball joint fault as it would have been cheaper and in their own interest!

Slightly out of round tyre/wheel?? Antiroll bar drop link?

Sorry for the delay

It doesn't have airmatic.

The 'out of round' doesn't sound applicable in this case as ride is smooth and quiet on a flat surface. It's always related to a bumpy road surface. Drop links were my first option but I'm assured they're fine.

The more I think about it, the more I suspect it's strut related but as I'm unfamiliar with the model I really don't know. I just wondered whether there may be a common fault? Of course, as luck would have it, I can't make it do it when stationary.

What sort of a job is strut remove and strip? Should I go there?

hi have you sorted noise yet as i have same noise on my cls thanks phil

Can you feel any vibration thought the steering wheel?

Could it be a loose wheel arch liner/ undertray?

Anti roll bar drop links on the front possibly.
Either that or Violet Elizabeth Bott is stuck in the engine compartment.

did you find noise on your car ,i think mine is strut top mount have changed 2 ball joints and still the same

The only way to eliminate the wheel or tire is to move it.
Easy to accomplish and it would 100% tell if it were that or the suspension.
I remember some years back, I had a similar noise, not very noticeable, but over time it got worse. At one point the tire had lost pressure and gone flat which distorted the internal reinforcement. Tire changed. Problem gone.

sorted my cls n/s front bobble noise after 2 ball joints top and bottom ,anti roll bar ball joint ,still noise . fitted new strut (shocker) when strut removed found it has lost a bit of pressure and allowed the alloy bottom cone that coil spring mounts on to seperate and close up ,causing bobble noise. after 6 months of noise i now have a
car which drives like dream

Bobble noise from front wheel/suspension

Hi, im a new member and have, i think, the same noise from my nearside front wheel/suspension. Like a bobble bobble noise almost like quickly knocking a cardboard box with your knuckle ? I can only hear it over rougher ground at very slow speeds otherwise the ride is very smooth and quiet. I have recently put Eibach springs on the car which are slightly shorter than standard so i would have thought it would have not been the same problem as yours, the spring not seating properly
due to the lost pressure in the shocker as the springs are shorter ? All the ball joints and bushes have been checked and are fine. Any ideas would be much appreciated, thanks
