I Know I should have not tried, I am like Frank Spencer when it comes to DIY!

I followed some very detailed instructions and pictures to remove the instrument cluster, and then to take it apart to attempt a pixel repair on my CLK55. The end result is only a marginally better showing on the pixel front, which might improve slowly over time given other peoples attempts, but....... the fuel guage doesn't work now :( The needle does not move, although the amber light (low fuel warning) does work.

Anyone any ideas?

Is the large wiring clip on the rear in properly?

I know when I removed the cluster from my W202 if it wasnt 'clipped' in properly, some dials worked and some didn't, it was hard to check though due to the lack of space so I just listened for the click before re-assembling.

Fill your car up :)

Sorry no idea assuming your connected everything back securely.

 Thanks!

I have checked the connection, both clicked back into place. Will dismantle again, reconnected and see whats happens. This is very frustrating. Some of the pixels have reappeared but not to the extent that numbers are complete and clear. Bu*****ing up the fuel guage is not good though.

Peter, I recently did this to my W208 and had exactly the same problem.

Take your cluster out, take it to bits like you did to 'fix' it, and (with clean hands) push down carefully but firmly on the guage where the fuel needle is.

Mine locked down with a solid sounding click and from then on the needle worked normally.

Should work the same for you. Good luck!

Sorted! Makes such a difference.....

I notice the fuel light's on again. Is that 105.2 miles since the last fill-up? I doff my hat to you, Sir. You are clearly driving it like it's meant to be driven.. :D

Cheers,

Gaz

Fuel light is on with amazing regularity! But no, not 105 miles since last fill up....I only drive about 80 miles per week (2 x 40 mile journeys) and the trip computer averages about 29-30mpg after each 40 mile sprint.... unless of course my right foot gets a little heavy and I turn up the V8 soundtrack!

Can you tell me how you did this as my temp display had dodgy pixels.
