Hi guys, I just bought new aftermarket 19" 8.5J rims ET40 (stocks are 16" /7J ET43) for my C220 W204 ,the problem is when I went to fit the tyres the bloke there told me my bolts from the stock 16" wheels cant be fitted to the new 19"s, not only the new rims are made for conical seat lug bolts ( stock 16"s are with ball seat bolts) but I will also need longer bolts (although I dont have spacers) ,but he can't tell how long .Basically he told me I need to find out what bolts i need , buy them and then come back to him. So I don't have any knowledge about bolts so I made a research what size bolts I have on my stock 16" rims ( they are 14mm x 1.5) ,but I still cant find anywhere how long those new bolts need to be so they fit my new rims. Any ones help appreciated, cheers

Bolts are measured from the bottom of the seat to the end of the bolt. The bolts fitted to your 16" wheels should be 27mm long.

Push a tape measure through your new wheel bolt hole and measure from the seat of the bolt hole to the back of the wheel and add 20mm which will go into the hub. That should give you the length of the bolt required. You can get conical seat bolts on eBay. Just make sure they are M14 1.5mm pitch.
Be careful as if the bolts on the rear wheels are too long they will foul the parking brake shoes.

What is just as important is the offset of your new wheels. They should be ET45 to fit your car. The ET will be stamped on the inside of the wheel.
I would check that too.

Idk why you said they should be ET45 ,they are ET40 , but they should fit ,made a big 1 week research before I ordered them

ET45 is the recommended offset for 19" alloys on a W204.
Thats why I said it.
ET40 pushes the wheel 5mm closer to the wheelarch than the recommended wheel.
You probably will get away with with the wheels you have bough, but I'm just letting you know the correct dimension.

It's a pity you didn't research the kind of bolts you needed too;):D

Have a look on www.alloywheelsdirect.net. Choose your 16's and see what bolts they offer, then your 19's.
Unfortunately that web site shows up to 18" only for my car ,but thanks anyway

Well the company which I ordered those rims from was asking all the details for my car to make sure they will fit ,so I was expecting they will be made for the same type of bolts I have or at least to come with a proper set of bolts

I hope you get the bolts sorted anyway.
Got a photo of the wheels you have bought?

No it doesn't.

Scroll down to the 19" alloys. One set of AMG and a few Brabus alloys. But you can see the ET's recommended.

Right , just checked it , for some reaseon whether I coose 16" or 19" it shows bolt leght 27mm , which is what I have anyway ,I guess its just different for the aftermarket rims

^ Double check by trying what I suggested in Post #3 above with the tape measure.

The length of the bolts has nothing to do with the diameter of the wheels...but the thickness of the wheel centres. MB wheels are likely all the same...after market are obviously thicker.

The tape measure suggestion looks good , I found out that the bolts I need are M14 1.5mm , just need to be conical , I dont know why that bloke with the tyres thought they need to be longer , thank you everyone for your help

The 1mm difference doesn't matter. 28mm will be fine provided you are happy 27mm is the correct length.

Don’t buy any cheap ‘tuner’ bolts made from alloy, they will strip their threads and are dangerous, always buy steel bolts.

Your fitter was right to tell you to get bolts of correct fitment (conical) the ball seat type would have a very small contact area onto the wheel and that could promote stress cracks. Proper conical bolts will have something like 20 times the contact area. :)

What suspension is on the W204 ?
