Hello, some of you will have seen my previous thread on this, it gets worse.
Firstly, you know what I mean?. Its the two spring loaded, rubber footed thingys either side of the under bonnet which cushion the close and apply opposite tension against the bonnet lock?. Well, the rubber feet on mine had a habit of staying attached to the front frame (the one above the radiator) for some reason. every time I opened the bonnet the feet would be pulled out of their plastic retainer.
I tried all sorts, oil, grease, silicone, and all forms of other stuff to prevent the unseen bond but nothing worked. Then, one day, one of the feet came away and lodged itself inside the engine undertray
. I gave up on the feet and stuch two rubber pads on the radiator frame and let the plastic retainer sit against those, result?. I thought I had one but......
Today, opening the bonnet, both retainers and springs came away and went every where including the engine undertray
.
It would seem the retainers stay in place by a barbed spring clip action AND the insertion of the rubber foot keep the clips splayed and inplace
.
I managed to retrieve everything from under the engine with and old coat hanger and a torch but I am back to square one, oh, I broke a clip as well.
I'm off to the the dealers tomorrow to get two new clips and rubber feet. I will go back to 'as it was' in the first place and apply some silicone to the rubber pads which are still stuck to the radiator surround and I'll let you know the outcome. I post this more of a tale of woe and how I MIGHT end up with a fix more than anything else. BTW, if it happens to you dont drive it until its fixed as I am not sure if the safety restraint mechanism will work without the said opposite tension against the lock.
