Hi. I’ve recently bought a mercedes a180 2017 plate. Just in the last 2 weeks it’s came up it’s got a bonnet malfunction and every time i lock the car it beeps (asif to say the bonnet is open) shortly after this message came up every single night at about 5am the alarm goes off ! It’s only at night time and the only way to have it not go off is leave it in the garage unlocked. I obviously can’t keep doing this but we are not sure what’s causing there to be a bonnet malfunction as everything seems to look ok. Any suggestions ? Thank you!

Probably a Bonnet-closed latch switch that's gone faulty or out of adjustment. Not sure where that is on the new A class

When you lock the car, how many times do the hazards flash?..Should be 3 times.

Leave the bomet open, in the raised up position, lock the car, how many times do the hazards flash?... Should be 2 times.

Check the wiring loom for damage and the electrical plug is fully home your car should still be under manufacturers warranty???

I think it’ll still have warranty worth a go anyway, ring up your local dealership.

Unfortunately not. Last night we left it unlocked and the alarm still went off. Tried to get into it this morning and the car wouldnt open so had to use the key. Going to have to be a trip to mercedes on monday i think

Where about in Durham are you based? There a few MB specialists in the area rather than use the MB dealer, if it's not covered under warranty.

I live near peterlee. The car was actually bumped at the front and can’t decide whether that’s why there seems to be a bonnet malfunction, it should be under warranty as it’s 7 month old but not sure whether they’d do anything with it being in an accident before

The alarm siren has it's own rechargeable batteries inside the siren, depending on what is faulty, I would suspect the alarm siren itself as the car was sold at an auction and may have been off the road and without battery power for a very long time, that can damage the siren backup batteries.
Suggest you don't just unplug the sirn bu remove it from the car as it could still go off while disconnect. It is not the car battery that powers the siren, it is it's back up batteries.

Don't know where siren is located but u could trigger the alarm and listen for the siren location.

There's Phil at Staithes garage in Dunston or Chris at MB Darlington in Darlington. I have used them both albeit Phil couldn't help me with the issue I had, he was very knowledgeable and helpful.
I use Chris for all my servicing. If you do use Chris, be sure to tell him I recommended him.
