Bonnet pull handle

Hi I have a c220 d sport 2016. I pulled the bonnet release lever and it came away from under the cash board. I have tried to put it back. But won't go back. I think a previous owner has damaged it. I can't see any breakage. Anyone else had this problem ? I think it is a bad design. All the other cars I've had had solid bonnet release levers.

Are you sure it won't go back? Before test driving a 2 year old SLK I asked to see the engine bay & when the salesman pulled the lever it fell into the footwell. He quickly re-fitted it though. I did buy the car but it soon needed a new roof, a replacement air con. system & wheel sensors. The replacement SLC is little better & would never buy a Mercedes again.
