Hi,

Sat in my office today, which is in the area of a scrap yard, and bored I used a website my friend had let me know about.

It basically tells you the make and model of the car, and whether it is insured (or at least on the database) or not when you enter the registration number. I entered the number of all of my cars and it came back with the rigfht make and model and the fact that they were insured, same for my friends cars and the majority of the cars going up and down the road.

The scary part is - 80% of the vehicles visiting the scrap yard did not show up as insured!! And I don't mean those ON the lorries, the actual delivery lorries / vans themselves!

Is this as scary as it seems, or do commercial vehicles not have to be insured specifically (i.e they are covered by a blanket insurance policy?). All of the other commercials i.e water board etc driving past showed up as insured!

If they really are not insured I suggest Mr Plod come over and have a field day!

P.S. loads of old mercs been meeting their makers recently, such a shame!

None of my small fleet of 6 lorries show on there, as they are on a fleet policy, not individual ones.
Same goes for a motor traders policy. Whilst the vehicles are insured, they will not show up on the insurance database site.

Anyway, did you read the disclaimer? Only YOUR vehicles may be checked:rolleyes:

My transport manager has his own log in for our insurers web site where he updates our ever changing fleet (spot hire and short term vehicles) hence all our vehicles show up as insured even though they are on a fleet policy.

Its a pain if you do not do it as your vehicles will keep getting stopped.
