Recently due to everything new going on here I have started "get to know" process of current USA car production and was checking what is it that they have, that would fit my wallet and needs. It would be understatement saying that I was surprised, more like astonished with the offer of differences and capabilities.
So, I'll start with models I had found interesting for transporting me and my family:
1. GMC Acadia Denali for $48k ~ £38k
3.6 V6 Petrol with 9-speed auto, 7 seats, full leather, AWD with all possible gizmos.

2. Honda Odyssey Elite for $50k ~ £39k
3.5 V6 Petrol, 10-speed auto, 7 seats, full leather, again with all possible gizmos.

3. Ford Flex Limited for $48k ~ £38k

Now just to wait and see what will the future bring to us.

You can buy a RHD 2020 Corvette or Mustang over here right now, if you want a bit of fun and to be 'different' ..Cue a lot on here saying 'yes but a MB XYZGLC Diesel is better screwed together and will be easier to insure etc etc. But my guess is that is not why you started this thread.

I must say when working in the USA (last job there December 2018) every hire car I had was not screwed together very well and even the ones with smaller engines delivered horrendous MPG , despite the fact that I calculated it in US Gal and I did not have to pay for the fuel I was still surprised ...and thats from someone who daily drives 5.4lt V8.

They do indeed have some 'interesting' vehicles . My mate bought a brand new Mustang 5.0 last year just because he fancied one. He was not interested in 'competing' with European cars of similar spec (twice the price in some cases) he just fancied a big American V8 ..end of.

Mustang unfortunately doesn't come in estate version with 7 seats. :dk: And regarding the quality of final finish of current USA cars I don't know much tbh. My judgement in picking those 3 cars was only based on photos and given descriptions on the web, further drilling into details is necessary and will happen in case of given possibilities of buying American cars in future. My intention was only to check the options we will all maybe have in a year or two and how much difference we can expect to see compared to European cars we got used to buying and driving.

USA cars will be cheap and loaded with extras if they ever get here. We have to bear in mind all of our parking spaces in the UK are based on something like a 1974 Ford Escort .

A Grand Cherokee Jeep is a 'mid size' car over there. I had one for almost a month and I really fell for it. But in the UK it comes with a boring diesel engine of a massive V8 , the 3.something V6 I drove in the USA is not available here.

One great hire 'car' I had was a designed and built in the USA Nissan TITAN V8 pick up (2WD) , great fun at 15 MPG !

The Chevvy Camaro SS V8 6.2 was bonkers (I was working in the North East ..in the winter) it did not like snow and it was poorly designed and made out of tin..but boy, was it fun ;)

Get a Tahoe / Yukon instead. They hold up better.
I saw Tahoe, Yukon and Escalade but my exercise was finding a big American car for under £40k. Also, F150 is dirty cheap but would be a bit too much for me.

Spend the extra money. Search for a 2009 GMC arcadia and see condition. You'll understand what I mean. GM and Ford make great trucks. Their car line up is not too good. Also check out the explore which might be better suited for European roads.

Well, I hope the Model X we have at work is not a typical example..... :(

Model X? I didn’t come across such car on my research of USA cars. If that is what I think it might be than I had found some much more interesting models on US market which don’t have IC engines but something called Fuel Cell and I mean they have a lot of models fitted with those strange contraptions. If that is going to be our future I like it a lot. 😉
