I have just bought my C250 CDi Blue Effciency AMG Sport and am a little concerened.

Although the dealer has assured me that my 2009/09 car is definatly a C250!

So whats the issue i hear you say?!?!

Well, when i went to insure the car it came up as a 220cdi B.E AMG Sport. Also, on the log book it says its a C220CDi and when i did a car check through HPi it said the same.

I questioned the Mercedes main dealer again and they assured me it was a C250cdi and that it was an admin error at point of registration that hasnt been picked up, as they have the build sheet that they say, although they did nt show it me, that it is a C250CDi B.E Sport.

Ok, i thought, maybe, then, today i got the oppotunity to test the perforamce of my car against a 59 plate BMW 320d SE estate, the BMW was slightly quicker off the mark and then equal on pace!? Then later this afternoon, a friend of mine who has a C220cdi B.E Sport saloon matched my pace from 0 - 100mph from a stand still start going onto a 'private road'. So again, my car didnt appear any quicker at all than the C220cdi.

So the question is this....what do i do? and how can i check what exactly i have bought, as i am now more than a little concerned.

Any and all advice would and will be appreciated.

Cheers

Steve

What is the engine number? If you haven't got it sorted by the morning I,ll look up its data card for you on Mercedes epc tomorrow.(different computer to the one I'm on now)

I have a C250CDI and came from a 120d and there is a big difference in performance. The 120d is faster than the 320d equivalent. I test drove a C220d and it felt the same as the 120d. Not scientific but it might give you an idea. Another thing you could do is to take it to a rolling road and see what kind of power it comes with.

I always thought in real world terms that the 250 was a business special tweaked for emissions and that the performance difference was negligible between it and the 220?

Count how many Turbo chargers it has, should be two for that year I believe, post 2009 are for sure. 204hp.

Obviously the other models only have the single turbo.

Check your yellow book....the C220 ahso has 2 turbos but only 170 bhp. the C250 should have 204

Do'h, thought the 220 was just the single turbo.

Every 250CDi I've driven recently has been plenty rapid for a 4 cylinder diesel.

You do not seem to have any qualms about driving at 100mph. Does it take much courage to ask the dealer to SHOW you the build spec that they apparently have?

I had a long test drive on both before I bought the 250CDI and there is a significant difference.

Take your car to an independent Mercedes specialist, to do a check if it has been remapped to a 220CDI. That will tell whether the car was a 250CDI.

The engine serial number should tell you whether it is a 250CDI or 220CDI.

Check the VIN.

If it's not WDB204003 or WDB204203, it's not a 250Cdi.

09 reg IMHO is pre blue efficient and therefore pre 250.

From the Ops post and performance relative to a 320d it's not a 250. I have a pre be 220 and it's 320d pace. A 250 moves the game on.

Thanks for all the replies.

Ok, for an update......

I went back to Mercedes this morning and asked to see the build spec, they brought it up on a system they use called Oasis, according to that system the car is as follows

Chassis number starts WDD2040032A3***33
Description is: C250CDi Saloon Blue Efficiency
DVLA/Ernie Description: C250 CDI Sport Auto
Brand: 0
.
.
.
.
.
Colour: Fire Opal
etc..................

Even with this info, and explaining to them that i still wasn't convinced due to the performance issues i've explained here and to them, they said they have no way of rolling road testing the car as they don't have any in-house facilities! And again assured me that the car was, in their opinion, a C250CDi.

So what now? I'm still unsure, and when i took the car to a local tuning specilist this afternoon to get a read out, he said that because its an auto, its difficult to get accurate readings and wouldn't really prove either way. (tuner was Rick Woods Garage in Davenport, Stockport).

Funny thing is, the salesman who sold me the car text me saying to look up the returns 30 day policy online and consider it!? So do i return the car? Or try to prove its not what it is? Or shut up an get on?

The other kicker, was the garge where i took the car to be rolling rolled tuned did take a look at the ECU and said that this particular model doesn't yet have any supporting remap software available for it, and couldn't offer any other support.

So, currently have a gorgeous car, that feels lacking in performance, has all the documentation pointing at a 220 model and yet i'm told and seen via the Oasis system its a 250.

Hmmmm :confused::(:crazy:

Did you check the number of turbos and the VIN number as suggested on here?

Thanks for the offer, because i can't yet PM anyone due to not having made 30 posts, i can't PM you the Vin number. Do you have an email address?

Apparently, its only the C200 that has a single turbo, the C220 and C250 are identicle in every way expect that Mercedes factory map the 250 to 204hp.

Pretty sure my C220CDI BE only has one turbo. Think the E220 has the twin turbo engine.

If you lift the engine cover there is a sticker with the engine code on it. Blue efficiency will be OM651xxxx check that and post contents.

We get this problem a lot.

Around 2009 they started changing the name to 250 so its a 250 but DVLA etc register it as a 220.

Ive got one in at the moment, same thing, its a 250 as far as mercedes/data card are concerned but the V5 etc says 220... we have had loads like this.

2009(59) MERCEDES C250 CDI AMG SPORT BLUEEFFICIENCY SALOON AUTO BLACK - Mercland

mine also is a WDB203003 vin number.
