mercedes sl320
Just bought a 1998 SL320 with 27k on the clock .

Took it to Scotland and in a week did 1k miles , it previously having done 1k in nearly 5yrs.

Problem: the ride was excessively bouncy (think Zeberdy on Magic Roundabout) on many country roads and even on motorways to a lessor extent .

Disappointing ride so any suggestions as to why and how to cure ?

Much appreciated

Dennis

Lack of dampening sounds like. Have you looked at your 'shock absorbers' for signs of leaking? Go to each corner of the car in turn and push down a couple of times to build up a rhythm and then let go when it is at its lowest. The car should come up and then settle without bouncing any more. If the bounce continues, it's the dammer units (shock absorbers). They need to be changed in pairs (both rears, both fronts).

Do the bounce test on each corner.

See if you can get the corner to bounce by sitting and lifting the arch. It should just settle down straight away. If it starts bounces, your shocks are knackered.
