I had a puncture last night at 1.30 am when i really really needed to get home in a hurry.

Often the boys in blue get a hard time on car forums, but i want to publicly thank the passing officers who were happy to get their hands dirty as we wressled for an hour with a siezed wheel before i could change it.

Sometimes you don't appreciate them until you need them

Well done guys

Alex

It's good hear a 'good' story about the plod for a change.

I would have liked to be a policeman but I couldn't, for two main reasons.

1: I would be scared of certain situations (and I aint a softie!).

2: Even though I am mild mannered, I would end up hammering those ar**hol*s that spit, kick and punch at you (amongst others.)

The fuzz are invaluable and even if you quadrupled their pay it wouldn't be enough.

Hats off to these guys.

1973, M6, Brum, 3am, Winter, chuffing freezing. Puncture nearside front, VW Variant TL on Beligan Number Plates. Along comes Smokey, put my heavily pregnant Mrs in their early Rangie (blast furnace for a heater) helps me change my wheel, puts on my very bald spare (bollocking only, yes I did buy two new tyres) and we are away in no time. Was I in the AA/ADAC naw, seriously could not afford it back then. Then and now, thanks to the team in blue. Our son now a boy in blue (drives a 190D!) yep like in all jobs there are some with "character defects" they get the headlines.

Ah good :) Karma working back from then then :) in 2003 i helped them change a wheel on a W203 they had without a jack and stopped them using the wrong wheel bolts on the space saver . Nice to be nice i suppose

There's some wonderful officers out on the front line, doing a difficult job for no thanks, with no support from their superiors who are busy playing office politics. Their dedication to the general public puts every MP to shame.

They've been screwed over by successive governments, and the latest pay award is frankly a disgrace. Some have paid the ultimate price for their dedication, and still their widows have recieved less compensation than a drunken yob gets for tripping on a loose flagstone.

http://inspectorgadget.wordpress.com/ is well worth a read - he tells it better than I could.

There was a story in the papers the other day re a constable who was up in court charged with assaulting a ned who had been throwing pieces of burning wood at firefighters .

Most sane people would reckon he deserved a commendation for what he did !

Thats f****** outrageous.

Much as I like to have a swipe at the police and how its run etc, the constable deserves no such punishment, and deserves praise at the least for doing something right about something wrong. If we had more coppers like that and we'd have less neds and a nicer place to live. Good for the copper anyway.

And what was the punishment for the ned? Probably less than the copper :crazy:

PS don't firefighters have water cannons, they should be encouraged, praised and rewarded for using them on those that assult them...

Its true they do do a more often than not a thankless job and 'we' only have a go when we get 'done' or similar.

All the good they do sort of gets forgotten about.

Most sane people would hope that he gave him a proper shoeing and a commendation!

Lack of respect for the Police Force (partly due to 'civil rights') has a lot to do with why this Country is in a bit of a moral mess.
