Wondering if anyone has the original installation manual (or copy) for the Brabus Tempamatic system? Of course any information on the setup of this sytem would be appreciated.

thanks

Hi there mate and welcome to the forum.I think Talbir might have one

Hi 2Phast

Apologies i haven't had a chance to respond to PM.

I didn't receive instructions with my kit, but it was very straightforward - all links together within itself and only 5 external wirres to connect :

- ground

- +12V with key in pos I

- night illumination wire (blue/grey on the MBs)

- ext temp sensor (fits right in place of the stock sensor, behind front reg plate)

- oil temp sensor (never worked out where this fits but it's a square plug an likely fits somewhere !)

It's easy save finding the location for the oil temp sensor which i never found time to investigate fully.

cheers

Exactly what is it?
Colin.

Thanks for the reply. Just so I am clear with what you said... The red wire is switched 12v, black wire is ground and the blue wire is illumination, correct?

Also, it looks like there is a LED mounted between the tempamatic switches and the headlight level adjuster. There are three wires, red white and black. Is this the "oil temp sensor with the square plug" you mentioned? Do you know what this is used for? Maybe some sort of warning LED for high oil temps or something? What did you connect yours to?

Where did you mount the oil temp sensor? Did you install a threaded bung for it in the oil pan? Or did you tap the sensor directly into the pan?

thanks for the help!

Oh, I did send a inquiry to Brabus asking about the availability of a installation manual for this item, but given my past experience with them, I am not holding my breath for a positive outcome.

The LED is nothing to do with tempamatic.. thats for the alarm.

We never figured out where the square plug goes and as such is not connected. Im sure there must have been more to the kit to allow you to tap into the oil pan or filter housing maybe. However when these kits get sold on ebay, I doubt they would take the more oily bits off to sell with the kit.

p.s. I assume you bought the one that was on german ebay recently?

I was about to say that the LED is the same as a W124 I've borrowed from 124 works and it's a status light for the aftermarket alarm :)

It is a interesting coincidence that the kit Talbir had and my kit both have the exact same LED installed, what are the chances of that? Does your kit have the same LED? I suspect the LED came with the kit, whether or not it is intended for use with the tempamatic system or alarm, I don't know.

Where did you mount your oil temp sensor and how did you mount it?

Hi,

Talbirs car is now my car... I bought this car last November and the pics above are from the ones I took ;)

Its really the only place to put an Alarm LED without breaking into any wood..

Hi Rik

Never figured that one out since i didn't find time to search it out - but best bet is to get the diagrams for a w201 Cosworth 190e, since they had an oil temp sensor from factory and see where that one fits....either oil sump or oil filter is likely placing.

Then just use the Cosworth sensor piece but hooked upto the wires on the Brab kit.

Ps yes, Jay is new owner of that silver 500E i owned....most stupid thing i did in my life was sell that car. Gorgeous piece and irreplaceable for me. But i have got a another 500e recently...a Spruce Green one...with lots of Brab bits again....

Good idea, thanks.

Was I correct on the wire colors, you didn't confirm

found this on another forum.
does anybody know what temperature sensor for the BRABUS Tempamatic fits, so has the same characteristics?

BRABUS wanted to 57.94 euros on 31.1.2006 I have included the 16% VAT . .
Supposedly is the donor of BMW (Part number: 2246094; then 18.44 Euro + VAT) or VDO (Part Number 805/44/1X) fits.

this is the temperature curve for the VDO sensor I think.

Ohm °C

264 145

305 140

350 135

I think in some BMW's they fit the sensor instead of the sump drain plug??

That post sounds like they are trying to find a replacement oil temp sensor. For my project, I don't need a sensor, just a good idea where it is installed and how it is installed. Talbir touched on the topic a bit, I will have to take a look once the vehicle is on the lift. I don't think installing the sensor in place of the oil plan drain plug is a good idea. Normally, if you were to retrofit something like this, you would weld in a threaded bung (or socket) for the temp sensor to screw into. This could be directly in the oil pan (like other after market oil temp related products) or up near the oil filter housing like Talbir mentioned.

I would like to know where Brabus recommended the sensor to be installed and how. In lieu of that information, it will have to be a best guess

See post #17 the MB oil temp sensor on the 2.5 16v is located on the oil filter housing.
