S500L (W220) PREV- S600L (W140),3x E320, E280, E240, S500, 450SLC, E300D Wagon
Found this on PistonHeads.

Anyone know anything about it, or anyone know what makes it get over 600bhp?

Thanks.

Brabus did a 6.9 and a 7.2 but neither managed over 600 AFAIK.

This one doesn't look that special, i have seen Brabus styled and tuned w140 sedan's, few cars can look as good !

Ex-Japanese Embassy vehicle? Based where? - not Japan or UK as it is LHD. Japan has embassies all over the world, so not a very helpful description.

And if that heap still knocks out 600hp (if it ever did) I would be v surprised

..and it looks terrible.

One of the members on here used to have a Brabus W140, the 7.3 'SV12' IIRC? Saw it in the flesh at a GTG - stunning

Was quite a rare car, I think it went abroad when he sold it.

A LHD Mercedes in Japan is actually a status symbol of wealth *shrug*

That said, this is prob one of those £2500 jap imports, with some brabus wheels and a dodgy ad description.

I thought the w140 was launched in 1991, this advert says its a 1990, how can that be possible?

Its only a few miles from me if anyone is interested.

The engine does look like a stock W140 V12. The only bits that may be Brabus are that rear bumper, wheels and possibly back box. Also the front bumper is not colour coded like the rest of the car.

Indeed the front bumper looks odd and is a different colour! haha how can anyone have the nerve to try an sell it like that!

So where does it numpty get 600bhp from?

I imagine it's 600 Barry Horse power, whatever the genuine dyno reading at the wheels is double it take off a bit and then add a plus sign at the end of it. Like standard Saxo VTR 210BHP+!!!! As you see all over ebay.

I really fancy a S600. Is it utterly unrealistic to get 25mpg on a run to Germany? My S500 managed 28mpg, my A8 4.2 managed 28mpg, my S80 T6 averaged 31mpg, my E320 V6 averaged 33mph (37mpg on one trip for some reason). I tend to get off the boat at Dunkirk and just sit on cruise at 130km/h for 300 miles. If it's reasonable I might I just go for a V12, going to use the search function to find out if the v12 is just a time bomb waiting to go off and cost me a fortune.

Ahh missed that, it would make more sense to get it re painted and fitted for a better sale though.

He has changed the BHP to 400
"THE CAR HAS BEEN CHECKED WITH BRABUS AND THEY CANNOT CONFIRM OR REFUTE THE LEGITIMACY OF THE CAR BUT PUT THIS DOWN TO THE AGE OF THE CAR! DESPITE ALL THE SO CALLED EXPERTS STATING THAT THE ENGINE SHOULD HAVE A RED COVER PLATE THEY SAID THAT THIS IS NOT NECESSARILY THE CASE! HOWEVER AS A PRECAUTION WE HAVE DECIDED TO REDUCE THE OUTPUT OF THE ENGINE TO 400BHP. BRABUS SAID THAT IT IS MOST LIKELY BUT NOT CONFIRMED THAT THIS CAR HAS BEEN BRABUS SPEC'D BY A DEALER FOR THE JAPANEESE EMBASY WHO ORIGINALLY OWNED THE CAR!"

He sounds quite miffed about being corrected on his listing.
So come on own up....Who on here were one of "the experts"? ;)

Surely the simplist way to check for Brabus tuning would be to take it for a run.
I believe the 0-60 sprint for those S600s was quote at between 6 and 6.6 secs.
If it's much faster than that, it could be tuned.

can you belive that someone offered to swap his ml 270

Thats definately not a brabus lump, the brabus lumps look slightly different to the merc ones.

That sounds dodgy, Brabus not being able to confirm? When I bought mine and wanted to check it's legitimacy as to whether it had the Brabus K1 tuning kit fitted they were absolutely excellent I gave them the chassis number and they matched it to their records and told me everything about the car and which UK dealer it was supplied to, the complete spec etc.. The Brabus customer service was second to none and they bent over backwards to help.

Looks like as someone has pointed out, Brabus wheels and bumpers and thats about it. :)

standard 600 engine.
